The government is trying desperately to dig itself out of a seriously deep hole in which their advisor, through his abject lack of thought, judgement, humility, and ability to see the consequences of his utterly stupid actions, has dropped it.
It's the very very poor best they can do in an increasingly runaway situation.
I suspect they will tough this out, but I think their credibility in terms of advice about avoiding Covid 19 has been holed beneath the waterline.
