... would like to find some excuse for this second breach of lockdown - after he was well and back at work - and when (presumably) the 'childcare' emergency was no longer valid reason?

What's really shameful in my view is the way that all the weak-willed Cabinet ministers (who must know that what Cummings did is indefensible) have been coerced into defending him.
Anyway, now that a host of Tory back-benchers have said that he has to go he's toast - he won't last another 48 hours.
sedge - It appears the Housing Minister is on the spit this afternoon at four - interesting how neither Boris or any of his heavy hitters are subjecting themselves to the feet-before-the-flames farce of the daily bore, now that it has suddenly become uncomfortable.
BTW,
Cumming’s wife - who is an editor at the Spectator - wrote an article for the magazine during the pair's isolation, describing their experiences of the virus.

// She said that she "felt breathless, sometimes achy", but that her husband had "collapsed... and couldn't get out of bed."
She wrote: "Day in, day out for 10 days he lay doggo with a high fever and spasms that made the muscles lump and twitch in his legs. He could breathe, but only in a limited, shallow way." //

She failed to mention a 600 mile drive to Durham and back while he was at deaths door.

A pack of liars, the lot of them.
Gromit - // She wrote: "Day in, day out for 10 days he lay doggo with a high fever and spasms that made the muscles lump and twitch in his legs. He could breathe, but only in a limited, shallow way." //

If he was that ill, and she didn't summon outside help with her child - how come they suddenly felt the need to drive, given that he must have been considerably improved to be able to get down the stairs and into the car, never mind drive it for five hours!
The handling of the whole situation of this pandemic has be a lie from the start, and will carry on being so, they continue to dig a bigger hole. If this virus takes off again they will get less and less support this time round.

Absolutely teacake - the government's credibility in terms of 'advice' to the electorate is in shreds - and people will increasingly ignore them.
That's the real sadness of this. I've tried my best to support the Government's approach, or the motivations behind it. Everything gets undermined by a privileged snob undermining his own guidance and rules, and the credibility of the Government is further destroyed by rallying around him. Why? Why are they so scared of saying sorry? It doesn't even need to end in Cummings' sacking or resignation. Just apologise. The defences offered up for him is that he was doing what any loving parent would try and do. Fine. Do what a human does and show contrition, if not for the act itself then show some recognition that appearances and perceptions here are vital.

It's simply disgraceful to stick to a line that the guidance that has kept people away from their dying relatives, that has forced lives and livelihoods to stop, can be ignored, or bent, or broken, with impunity as long as you're important enough to Johnson et al.
The easing off of lockdown is a crucial stage.

Do it too fast, and more people will die.
Do it too slow, and the economy suffers.

Unfortunately, we are not in safe hands. The Government have been guilty of mishandling at every stage of this health crisis. It is almost certain they will call it wrong.
andy-hughes 'Peter - // Andrew ( long name) you and I agree dont we?
on Dom that is? //'

//My name is Andy, thank you//.

And Marr, who PP was obviously talking about, is called Andrew.
chrissakes - what is in a name ?
sozza Andy - I didnt mean to call you Andrew when you arent ( etc )
and sozza whilst I am at it for anyone else I have inadvertently insulted, harrowed, twitted, ridiculed and so on

and hey folks - they are still droning on about Dom.
is there really nothing else to keep them out of the pubs?
it is like -- one of those awful AB brexit threads which never seemed to die
OK did die but before they did - spawned two others
This was the Govt”s message in April:

Old question Where’s B or is he and cumming having a wee chin wag . Is a resignation on the cards to save the country Gonna miss. B or is
// It appears the Housing Minister is on the spit this afternoon at four //

it would appear not - unless Boris has had a recent demotion......
The BBC said the PM will be giving the briefing.

Could the tracking data on Cummings'
and his wife's 'phones not be used to see where all they'd been on specific dates?
Christ. I demand to know what they said in bed
// The BBC said the PM will be giving the briefing. //

…...Dominic, or Boris?
SPICERACK, what Cummings and his wife said in bed is neither here nor there but what is, is whether he followed the official guidance or no.
Let's go round and smash his windows, that'll teach him.
Oh dear. Seems like we are becoming a rather Stasi esque gang of informers in our dear nation.Of course when you have the Guardian/mirror readers all baying for blood after their preferred rags have dobbed Cummings in.Be careful what you wish for. Remember Big Brother.
Cummings staying .
