The number of new cases continues on a sharp decline. Right now, that's the measure to pay attention to in terms of the effect of lockdown -- hopefully it will show up in the death figures reducing in February.
Looking at hospitalisations, there's also a sign of that peaking, in line with the lockdown measures.

///What figure is that?\\\
'The Government said a further 1,820 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 - the highest number of UK deaths reported on a single day since the outbreak began.'

I asked yesterday, (19:46) if Gness's post to Margie applied to me too
(it is an odd thing to do to show your selfishness and ignorance on a public site.....you may yet get bitten on the bum)

//If you can't see the wood, Nailit then yes//
Id previously posted that I had continued to work through the lockdown (key worker), visited my sick mother, shopped....as we all have to do...and excersised (literally) by walking in the park etc.
If that makes me selfish, then carry on with your own self imposed imprisonment.
If this thread hadnt still been running tonight then I would have left you to think what you want, but theres no way that You are going to call me selfish for caring for my sick mum, having to work through a pandemic while you hide in the cupboard or getting a bit of fresh air while I can.
Or indeed meeting up with a friends while I can.

sevenOP // The Government said a further 1,820 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 //
That means that 1820 reported deaths TODAY of people who have died for any reason and who have had a positive test. It does not mean they all died today, the deaths were was recorded today. It does not mean 1820 deaths in 28 days.

Sharon, I go outside twice a day to walk my dog and shopping to the supermarket twice a week and I have never been scared and only started wearing a mask last summer in shops when it became a 'rule', up until then I had never worn one. Just get on with your life and take the necessary precautions if you are nervous. I'm sure you'll be fine.
//Carry on looking after your dear Mum, as I would if mine was here and needed me//
I will Marge, thanks.
The point I was making was that while everyone was cowering under the duvet, life goes on...
I still work as an (apparently selfish) key worker.
I still care for my mum because both the NHS & DougieMac dont give a flying **** (Selfish again)
& I wish to have some human contact with friends (Selfish me)
Guess I am just a selfish person who wishes to be human.
A walk in the park and some fresh air????
What a selfish tw* t I am eh??

"It brings the total number people who have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 to 91,470, although analysis by the UK’s statistics agencies suggest the true death toll is closer to 108,00."
Seems that average daily total is 3,266( or closer to ? )

Tell you what
(taking all this to a logical conclusion)
No more funerals, just cart your dead ones of to the Crem and forget them.
No more weddings either.
Dont try and supply food to those in need.
Shop only for yourself,,,dependents can look out for themselves.
Got kids? No worries, leave them at the door with the security guard
Have you got a health passport?
Sorry, no entry!
''Have you got any papers''...said after 6 o'clock.
''Why are you out''
Err, just having a stroll.
''That a £200 fine''
WHERE DOES IT STOP???
