You all carry on isolating and
posting links that have no bearing on the question.
Hide under the cupboard or the stairs before the

The missus is a key worker, nailit but she doesn't think because she is dealing with the public all day she has a right to share a drink with her mates because of it.
At least you are getting out and about in your job...many of us are not.

lesson one for barristers is never ask a question to which you don't already know the answer.
Similarly, don't issue challenges that you know can be met. It derails threads and you end up looking silly.
Broadly speaking: nailit, I'm genuinely glad you've gotr through a very limited lockdown without catching anything. God knows you've got enough to worry about already. But you're wrong to assume that because you've been lucky, everyone will be.

New Judge, I am highlighting the (possibly deliberate) misleading wording that has occurred since reporting on this pandemic started.[ 'the statistics are frightening', especially when misused ]
Your own comment @ 19:36 Wed 20th Jan 2021 exemplifies this:
"The highest number of daily rreported deaths was 1,820 (today)"
(NO, I am not accusing NJ of deliberately trying to mislead, but how confusion can arise in readers)
- as the figure of 1820 deaths was not the figure of people dying on Jan 20th 2020 - as of 28th Jan 2020 the number who died on Jan 20th is 1028; on which day(if any day) 1820 people died is unknown.
The peak deaths in the first wave according to the Government dashboard was 1073 on 8th April 2020 but ONS data reveals 1456 actually died from covid on that day. ( a peak in Spring )
Proper scrutiny of wording AND statistics around this pandemic is imperative, but woefully lacking.

Thats partly true seven OP but also misleading. Each one is still a dead body and each dead body is only counted once. And anyone who thinks only 1028 covid deaths actually died on 20th January would be wrong- that figure will increase over time as more deaths from that date become known as we know there are delays as you say youself. It ll probly end up to be 1200+ .

I would just like to say that I am very very grateful to every key worker who has kept this country running since the beginning of the Covid outbreak so, as an extremely vulnerable person, I can protect myself. TBH, playing the blame game seems pointless to me. And remember, we do not have the highest death rate in Europe and we are vaccinating people quickly, so we are doing something right.

No, that is 100% true, bobbinwales, perhaps the "as of 28th Jan 2020" escaped you.
Of course that number of covid deaths could rise - and fall if miscounted or misdiagnosed - even dramatically rise which we will certainly dramatically hear about, unlike the large increase in deaths on 8th April 2020 from 1073 to 1456 which will never receive the same( or any) attention.

Oh! Per head of population, I thought we did have the highest death rate in Europe.
Lockdown is starting to work.
Vaccination alone is not the answer.

The highest death rates in the world, according to worldometers, are
in Gibraltar, San Marino, Belgium, Slovenia, and the UK, in that order. It is unreasonable to include the first two of these at least, because they have the population of small towns and the total deaths in each are 70 and 65 respectively. Belgium's Covid-19 count has, I believe, always been based on probable rather than just confirmed cases, so is potentially slightly inflated, but there is no doubt that Belgium is per capita among the worst-hit nations; but, regardless, that makes comparison with Belgium tricky as it isn't a true like-for-like.
The most troubling aspect is that, for the time being at least, the number of new announced Covid-19 deaths in the UK per head is vastly outstripping both countries, and at present rates we can expect to surpass both Slovenia's and Belgium's death rate by the end of February.

What about Slovenia and Belgium, Ken? It's possible that we are using different resources, but, if so, I'd be interested to see the other source. I was trying to find equivalent data on Johns Hopkins' site, which is often treated as more official than Worldometers, but couldn't find it readily at least.
Jim, i just Googled 'Highest Covid death rates per capita and was directed to two sites, The Mail and the Daily Express, both agreeing on the figures. Belgium aren't in the list of 30 countries but Slovenia are about 7th.
That said, just noticed the list is only relevant to 18 Jan, so maybe there has been a seismic shift in the 10 days since?

You are accepting then your figure of 1028 is pretty meaningless because you might as well of said ' its 1028 but we haven't finished counting yet and could end up quiet alot higher.'. Disputing the figures for each day seems pretty when whichever way you look at it they sadly add up to over 100000 in 10 months.
