I find it ironic that all those critisising the police trying to disperse thes women are all too ready to support the police in this situation when other groups get together for any other reason.

The vigil was not illegal.

The High Court met in London on Friday and decided the law/guidance was such a mess, that they were unable to decide one way or the other if the vigil was illegal. That judgement meant the Met could ban the vigil because they believe it ‘could be’ unlawful, not that it was illegal.

// A High Court judge has refused to intervene in a legal battle between organisers of vigils, sparked by the death of Sarah Everard, and the Metropolitan Police.

The judge’s decision effectively means the police can stand by their position of advising organisers that Saturday’s event could be unlawful. //

The High Court said it wasn’t illegal.
Is that nitpicking?
Sunk - // Are we really employing constables who write ‘seized’ when they mean ‘ceased’. I will file that under bogus posting. //

No, but we might be employing constables who miss an auto-correct change to their text - i do it all the time, and it's unintentional.

Unlike your post, which I will file under pointless nit-picking.

The High Court said it wasn’t illegal.
Is that nitpicking?//

No idea why your asking me that.

My nitpicking comment was about you complaining that a police officer couldnt spell CEASED as if it determine dwhther they were suitable for the job.

As far as the illegal/unlawful diffrence am not sure why your asking me. Nothings been said by me on that.
'Ceased' would not be autocorrected to 'seized'.

ceases, crazed, crashed, Fraser, creased, graded, chased, cases do appear though.

Maybe the officer should 'of' asked for a proof read.
I was doubting the authenticity of the post writer. I Googled it and couldn’t find it anywhere. It may be a tweet or a facebook post, but no media outlet had used it as far as I can see.
Auto correct will not change ceased to seized. The writer wrote seized.

Especially if you live in.
Rotherham
Dewsbury
Rochdale
Bradford

No vigil for those girls.
So is Sarah Everard going to be the new George Floyd? Will we now be seeing women taking the knee before going shopping?
yeah webbo I ptd out elsewhere that 2500 girls in rotherham were abused and no one gave a tinker frack

There is a tide in the affairs of men.
Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;

horses for courses

hate using that phrase as we had a guy at work and the affairs which would be good were his only and we had to stay and do the work

we chucked him off the top of the building and said he jumped
// When police officers tried to crowd control and remove people from stamping on flowers for Sarah they refused. //

Other than this alleged police account, I have seen no reports that the flowers were being stamped on. There were hundreds of journalists and photographers there. Every mourner has a camera in her pocket, but no one reported Sarah’s flowers being desecrated. But it is being used as an excuse for the police’s heavy handed tactics against women at this vigil.
The words Shoota posted were said on Twitter by someone going by the name of PC_Milk.

Peter, how can you possibly know that people don't care about other girls and young women - you certainly have no clue what I think.
// We're in lockdown. Vigils and suchlike can wait.//

yeah foo obvious ! - can you imagine The Perp saying to sarah e - you cant die now, there is a covid emergency on !

mustve happened
yes mama thank you I shouldnt have spoken - (only if it please)

2500 girls abused Rotherham and nothing happens ( oops sorry the whistle blower gets fired sozza) allows me to conclude that no one gives flaying frack innit?

one girl dead in London and women with buns start scratching police men who are only there for the women's protection allows me to conclude ( even on AB !) that more people care for one death.....

I cd be wrong again

// So is Sarah Everard going to be the new George Floyd? Will we now be seeing women taking the knee before going shopping?//

no - we will see women in head scarves slashing men WHILST they are shopping and screaming ( women in head scarves always scream) - "ha you see you were following me!"
// As the police themselves have not generally been vaccinated, sending them in to do this put them at unnecessary risk.//
um I dont think that is true
but since this is AB - let us say it is!
Well the police wanted to be made an exceptional case, as did the teachers. However it was decided not to get them vaccinated early, but to stick to the age related vaccine timetable. Very few of the police will yet have qualified then.

// Sir Stephen House QPM, Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, recently told the Committee that there are roughly 1,700 Met staff members who are not in the workplace due to COVID-19. //
Sunk - // But it is being used as an excuse for the police’s heavy handed tactics against women at this vigil. //

The words 'heavy handed' and 'police' seem to crop up together so often these days, it's a wonder they don;t just tack the adjective onto their job title.

As far as I am concerned, for the police to get through a large tightly packed crowd to deal with an incident, there is no other way of doing so other than using tactics which the media like to refer to as 'heavy handed'.

I don't think shouting "Excuse me, could I just get past please ..." would have the desired effect in a highly charged situation which needs a rapid response to avoid possible injuries, or, irony of ironies, deaths of innocent people.
Peter - Have you ever considered condensing your unfathomable diatribes into one post, instead of spreading them over three of four separate posts as you have done here?

It would have the benefit of requiring readers only having to skip past one post without bothering to try and work out what on earth you are on about - instead of the tiresome task of skipping past three or four.
