Isn't Boris right when he says the general public don't give a toss about how it's re-furbished?
Isn't this the MSM (& Starmer) trying to make something out of nothing?
Labour latched on to this and will run with it, personally i don't care how it was refurbished, can we honestly expect our PM to fork out himself. No not really.
Who pays for your interior decorations? I know i pay for mine, i don't open a 'Go Fund Me' page whenever i want a new look. Which is virtually what the PM apparently suggested.
i wonder though Bobbi, he was in a position of power, now that's been stripped away, he can scorn the PM, and say, as been quoted, show where the bodies are buried.
In one sense he is correct, we honestly done give a monkeys if it looks like a Turkish Brothel like it does.
BUT, funding of it is a concern. Taking a Tory doner (or in the case of Labour a Labour doners) money 'on the sly' is not acceptable. IT can be seen as a bribe and is detrimental to both the Tory Party and the public.
My view of all these flats is that they should be decorated in a bog standard (but decent and befitting of the leader of the country) manner and only redecorated when worn. This should include all furnishings etc. This should be paid for by the tax payer as any other Government building is.
Probably all PMs have put their 'stamp' on the residency, but it is, as YMF says, how the refurbishment is funded that should concern us. All PMs get up to £30,000 annually toward the costs of maintaining and furnishing the flat. Surely that's enough?
When Boris says that the general public do not give a toss about how the refurbishment was funded – what Boris means is that he does not give a toss about what anyone thinks about how the refurbishment was funded.
I thought the flat etc were government grace and favour apartments and as such were decorated with public money. Eg the speakers flat that Bercow spent gazillions on, then Admiral arch that thumper spent on. This is surely just another example of that.
And there are some thoughts (backed up by an email) that Lord Brownlow (Tory donor) donated £58K toward the refurbishment. Said donation should be attributed to 'soon to be formed Downing Street Trust'. This proposed trust is intended to preserve the entire Downing Street estate. At the time of the donation, it did not exist - and still doesn't.
