naomi, if you think Britain would have been on the winning side without the aid of America and the Soviet Union, I can only politely suggest you read more history.
More American soldiers than British died. And something like 30 times as many Russians died. (Those are just military totals. The Soviet civilian total alone was something like 15 million.) Without their self-sacrifice, you'd be speaking Deutsch today.

Russia fought for Russia.
America fought for America
Germany didn't want a fight with Britain (not at that point) it would have been easy to ignore the Nazis and pretend it wasn't our fight.
Your side lost...get over it.

Are you getting me mixed up with someone else?
I've never said that to anyone. I don't believe that for a moment.
Typo?

You and I have been on AB for over fifteen years each and in that time I've seen (and maybe you've noticed it too) the level of debate in the News section has worsened over time.
Someone posts a question, it remains on topic for couple of pages then the personal digs start flying and all hell breaks loose.
If we could avoid that happening my guess is that the level of discourse would improve immediately. When someone digs, it's handy to remember that they're only attacking your position not you personally.
As a regular poster, you have it in you power to raise everyone's game. If you take the high road, eventually anyone who doesn't will look a bit weak - like they don't have the skills to build an argument.
Re: am I a moderator.
If I were, I would never say.
Doesn't really help does it? Anyway - enjoy the rest of your thread. There are some interesting (and entirely wrong) answers - I'm sure you've already spotted them!

SPICERACK "Kamala is extremely unpopular in the US.
She called Biden a racist and a rapist in the televised debates for Dem leader."
'At the debate, the moderators asked the candidates a question about racial inequalities in policing across the country, and while the question escalated into a discussion among all the candidates, Harris directed a portion of her answer to Biden.
"So, on the issue of race, I couldn't agree more that this is an issue that is still not being talked about truthfully and honestly. I—there is not a Black man I know, be he a relative, a friend or a coworker who has not been the subject of some form of profiling or discrimination," Harris said during the debate. "And I will say also that—that in this campaign, we've also heard—and I'm going to now direct this to Vice President Biden. I do not believe you are a racist and I agree with you when you commit yourself to the importance of finding common ground.'
