In 2008 the state voted for an Obama Presidency, then in 2009 it elected Bob McDonnell, a Republican as Governor.
Losing Virginia a year after his election win didn’t stop Obama winning the Presidency again in 2012.

Gromit try as you may to minimise the damage, the facts are there before you, it's gone from a ten point lead to possibly a 4 point loss - it's a disaster for the democrats.

It is a bad result, but not unprecedented.
In 2009 Republican McDonnell got 59% (Dems 21%) just a few months after Obama became President.

It wasn’t all over for Trump in 2017, and it is not for Biden now.

They are not barometer states, they are contrary states.
Only once in the last 44 years has Virginia elected a Governor of the same party as the President.

Was it significant when they both elected Democrat Governors shortly after Trump took office ?

I am not a Biden fan. So far I am underwhelmed. He has been a disappointment.
But I am greatly enjoying watching you squirm as you digest the reality that Virginia has only voted in a Governor of the same party of the President once in the last 44 years.
No doubt if Trump wins in 2024, those pesky Virginians will be contrary and elect a Democrat Governor next time..

Until a fortnight ago, gromit, McAuliffe was the biggest election certainty since Clinton in 2016 according to all the 'experts'.
Right up to the election, Democrats and their puppets in the corporate media were claiming that only tiki torch carrying racists would vote for Youngkin.
You either weren't aware of these things, not your fault, or find it expedient to downplay the significance of the result.
As it happens you're doing a better job than the Dems and the MSM who, I'm delighted to say, are doubling down and claiming the result is the fault of racists and a victory for racism.
