I think you will find he meant control of legal border entries (although of course you know that). Had we stayed in EU the migrant crossings would probably have been able to come in without resorting to dinghies but they'd still be here. What's the difference?

2020 was an embarrassing year when a record 8,417 people crossed the channel illegally.

2021 was 3 times higher with nearly 24,000 crossing.

Not sure if the UK has given up, or they are just useless.

Either way, Priti Patel should be sacked for overseeing this debacle. The UK Border Force is not fit for purpose and should be replaced with something that works. Give the new agency a proper budget and proper leadership.

We are not allowed by maritime law to really deal with this, doesn't matter what agency runs it the problems are the same. Boris suggested a 100% obvious cast iron solution for Both UK and France a few weeks ago but instead of looking at the idea they moaned about the delivery mechanism. The French would dearly love this problem to go away as would we but their belligerence overrides common sense.
