Gervais mentions the killing of Gypsies in the Holocaust from around 7.30 in this clip
Nobody said a word back then :

He makes reference to Anne Frank too
No song and dance made then either

As douglas points out it is just the bandwagon rolling by
Move on
Jimmy Carr has always been a controversial comedian. His "comic" material is designed to offend and he is very open about that. I love 9 our of 10 Cats do Countdown - totally irreverent but hilarious nevertheless. No one is forced to watch him.

Not seen that one
I prefer 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown ! Lol

Apologies
Could not resist
Sqad, Bernard Manning was banned by some councils and certainly lost a lot of tv work - as did Freddie Starr, Jim Davidson, Julian Clarey - but they keep working where they can. Either they love the money or they love the attention, probably a bit of both.
I think it's fair to say their tv careers suffered because of their comedy style
He doesn't mention Roma and Sinti people he simply says Gypsies.
People found it funny because their immediate thoughts about gypsies are not very supportive...and there is a reason for that.
There's room for a lot more choice now, with all the streaming services etc. I didn't like Jim Davidson, Mr Chubby, Bernard Manning... but would leave them to those who do.
Bernard Manning played in front of packed houses right up to his death. I think he was 74 when I last saw him and he was fantastic.

As thee any bisto?

8/10 cats does countdown is hilarious. One of my favourite programmes. JC is very funny on it.
And my face or yours. Brutal in a friendly way lol.

His best gag ever
Pure genius

Not for the snowflakes of today
if his career can survive that godawful laugh it can survive anything

I don't think that there is anything wrong with comedians being controversial but Jimmy Carr crossed the line with this.
Have you watched him tell the joke, danny?

But not Gervais in 2003 ?

Snowflakery in 2022 as part of the pathetic Cancel Culture

Nothing more
Sticky, yes Gervais as well but the thread is not about him.
Jimmy Carr ALWAYS crosses the line and his audiences love him for it. Couldn't get a ticket for his Aberdeen show, sold out within a very short time.
I wonder how Max Miller's joke would go down today.
" I met this woman coming towards me on a narrow bridge.I didn't know whether to block her passage or toss myself off.". Controversial but giving offence to anyone.
^not giving^
Was there a difference, Roy, between a Roma, a Sinti and a Gypsy during the holocaust or were they all Gypsies as Carr called them in the clip which I have watched.
LOL danny.......I always think of that joke.
