Thanks Roy, that's what I thought. No idea where Roma came in. A lot of missing the whole point,I think.
gness Yes if you could bear to watch it. And After Life, perhaps even better. Here's a review of After Life.

// After Life has its funny moments but it is more drama than comedy, taking seriously its exploration of loss, depression and the resilience of optimism. If you've not seen it, consider it a must-see, even for those who are not fans of Gervais. Mar 29, 2020 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review… Ricky Gervais at his best. \\

And finally (LOL), AB's opinions on him.

Pixie. Do you actually know who the people he was talking about were?
May I Just say that having loved ‘Afterlife’ and ‘Derek’ I’m half way through series 2 of ‘Extras’ - and loving that too. I really wish I could like ‘The Office’ but I just don’t. Hmmm … I suppose I could give it a third … or could be a fourth - try.
As far as the humour of Ricky Gervais goes, he makes his thinking clear here (go to 55:33):
The audience wouldn't be thinking of Roma or Sinti, they would be thinking of the gypsies that make a bleeding nuisance of themselves.
Carr has often said he tries to make you laugh and then question yourself for laughing.
Naomi, The Office is one of the few times that an American remake surpassed the U.K. original. And I will get round to starting afterlife sometime!
True indeed, roy - like many other people today, I have little time for some of the current people trading under the generic name of gypsy/traveller - their impact upon the society which I value is largely negative. That doesn't mean I would send them to the gas chambers though, or even laugh at a 'joke' celebrating it.

Also, the gypsies of the 1930s/1940s were a different matter - largely living outside society but (crucially) not leeching upon it or even interacting much with it - which only made their extermination by the Nazis even more abhorrent (if indeed that was possible).

There are things that are beyond my comprehension - getting cheap laughs out victims of The Holocaust is one of them.
The Roma gypsies are to this day detested all over Europe. The get kicked out of pubs in Germany just for being a Roma gypsy.

But as we have seen on AB, different people laugh at different things.
23:23, no gness... thankfully it wasn't personal to me.
Gness have you see my 23.17 post to you?
Just out of interest, gness and dave... what would you do with him? Do you think he should no longer be able to work/ nobody else should be allowed to watch him/ that he is actually serious/ that he is harmful some way?
Or are you saying, he just isn't to your taste?
I'd like him to see that actions have consequences - I can't see how any public money (BBC or C4) should be going his way for a very long time. I'd hope the pressure from advertisers would keep commercial companies from indulging him.

If he can still make a living doing live shows then that's fine (if disappointing).
I have, LB and I'll have a look when I'm not engrossed in Reacher. Blame Alba.

What would I do with him, Pixie? Well I wouldn't do anything with him. Wouldn't let him near me as I've always found him creepy.
I'd be pleased if he didn't work again but that won't surprise you as you've been around long enough to know that sweet as I am I am not a forgiving person....remember the pink fondant fancy at the Coronation tea in 1953..... :-)
I absolutely do, gness :-)) thank you both. Maybe leave him on Netflix then.
Thank goodness I can go to bed now.;-)
Sleep well, LB. Be a while for me. Blame Alba again. And Reacher. X

Frankie Boyle can give Carr a ten start for offensiveness The BBC rewarded him with his own show.
humph - not guilty!!! :-))

Leave Carr on Netflix or Prime or wherever and it those streaming services can make money off him, then that's their business.
It would be my business if I chose to subscribe .

Don't like him and don't watch 8 out of 10 cats for that reason.
