British Citizens who have chosen to live abroad permanently, will now be allowed to vote in UK General Elections thanks to a new law passed by Parliament. I am sure all abers will agree with this Decision.?
I suppose if they are bothered enough to keep registering every year then maybe it's fair enough.
Once you miss a year that should be that IMO: but I really don't like the idea.
No doubt.. Boris has sent a team of senior Civil Servants on a tax payers funded jolly around the world
and they have reported back that there are more Con voters living it up abroad than Labour voters.
//can anyone explain why an expat would want to vote in the UK?//
Those resident in the EU would certainly have wanted to vote in the 2016 referendum. There are also some aspects of their lives (for example, the State Pension) where decisions made by the UK government affect them.
I am sure There is a member of the HOL who lives in France full time ,and just pops over to vote in the House. when needed, just can't remember his name.
