Do We Have An Endless Supply

Of cotton wool to keep wrapping people up in?
I can remember back in the 50/60s when my family struggled to pay fuel /food / rent bills, it really is nothing new, but you had to stand on your own two feet. If you didn't have the money you went without, or paid when you could, little at a time.
It now seems that every little problem families have they go screaming for handouts. How long can this carry on, and should it carry on?
In my view its teaching people nothing, you won't help anyone by keep on propping them up.
In another 5 months or so you will find some complaining that their kids will have no Christmas presents. Will Sunak come up with a giveaway for that also. :)

I have read the gormless rubbish on this thread and have no apologies for adding.....
do you realise that asking the question first time round
do you have sufficient endless....
was...... "do you have sufficient nobel laureates ( 1915) that you can afford to send them to die in the trenches?"
They were referring to Mosley a chemist who had ALMOST described the neutron twenty y before Chadwick and had died in the trenches. So that was that, no neutron for 20 y
He had noticed fr'instance that the atomic number of Carbon was 6 and the at wt 12 and was ALMOST about to say - that is because there are six protons ( known) and six other chargeless particles ( Chadwicks neutrons)
BANG ! - that is the sound of him being shot
and so and so the fella DID write to the War Office. I thought it was Einstein but it wasnt. AND.....
for the next war: they designed a fella in the recruiting offices who would siphon off science grads....hence Bletchley.
yeah doesnt sit well with the other stuff about army coats and isnt meant to

The government should be using the money to educate people on how to budget and also how to make nutritious cheap meals. Many of these so called 'poor' families live on take outs because parents can't cook. I don't mean fancy either or even from scratch. A packet of spaghetti ( 29p Aldi) Jar of pasta sauce ( 99p) 100 grms cheese grated ( 75p) and you can feed 4-6 people generously for £ 2.03 and it can all be done on one ring of a hob, max time 15 minutes.
The house that I have just moved out of, need 3 open fires to heat it, we frequently woke up with ice on the windows and wore several layers of clothes - but if we were still living there we would not even be able to afford the coal and logs used to supplement the oil.
Also, not everyone wastes there money - some are already barely putting the heating on, missing breakfast to ensure their kids get food or to be able to catch a bus to work.
This will tip them over the edge - but hey at least they will have the cotton wool to keep them warm

Of course you can, Tantp...but that's neither healthy or sustainable. Cheap is not necessarily better.
Did you know that the elderly need more protein that young or middle aged folk? Just throwing in that useless bit of information.
I'm frankly tired of the *suffering makes you stronger* mantra, but I suppose it makes some feel superior to those who struggle.
