He's resigned you got your way. Every resigning PM in history has stayed until a successor is chosen. It is constitutionally very difficult to do anything else as I have explained about a dozen times on various posts. So why is this resignation any different to say Blair? Cameron? May? Perhaps they (the poltroons as you put it) think that as Boris has been considered unfit to be leader of a party essentially because of his character (not because of policies) he is hardly fit to be PM.
