What are your thoughts on this and would you be happy to see it introduced in the UK?

Sqad - // ...in my opinion. I would prefer to call smacking a child as preferred, reasonable physical correction appropriate for the occasion ... //

You can call anything anything, but that does not change what it is.

You can call an ass a horse, but it doesn't shorten its ears.

You mean it doesn't change what YOU think it is which may be correct or well off the mark.

You always think that your opinion is the correct one.......that is a positive trait in my books, but often seriously flawed.

My sons school tries to promote empathy. Times have changed and we are aware of conditions like autism, ADHD and learning difficulties.

And who doesn't????

Of course I think my opinion is correct, what would be the point of holding it, and offering it, otherwise!!
A-H LOL.....quite.
The Victorians didn't spare the rod & they produced a huge leap forward in industrialising this country & the world.

Wackford Squeers didn't get much backchat till that do-gooder Nickleby came along.
Of course naughty children should be spanked. Never did me any harm, got the cane 6 times for running down a school corridore.

Got the strap a few times. You must have seen nature progs where daddy lion slaps the kids if they get out of line.

Had a teacher who would face you when giving a strap on your palm. You dare not pull your hand away or the strap hit your finger tips, ouch.
Youngsters have no respect for any kind of authority these days, wonder why.
Seems many have not fully read what they are proposing, it's not wanton random hitting's and it is only if the parents agree.

The problem is the current liberal leftie way of thinking is working either, feral kids everywhere. The answer probably lies somewhere in between the two coupled with some parental responsibility that seems sadly lacking in too many case.

Give the parents the paddle first, then, YMF :-J
'it is only if the parents agree'

I'd have thought that any parents agreeing to having their kids smacked might need a visit from social services (SSA in the US).
Social Services !!!! .lol....yepp Zac, they would soon sort out violence against children.
They don't fail in every case, Sqad.
Don't agree with this as it shows that bullying is the way forward.
Sparkly I pulled my hand away and she hit herself on the leg. Everyone in the class laughed. So she whacked me harder on the side of my arm.
I don't believe, as a parent, in smacking kids at all. I smacked my son once and never again. I realised I did it in temper, which was wrong. He doesn't even remember it. If teachers or anybody else hit my kids I would take action. Physical punishment does not teach respect. Far from it. Respect has to be earned.

Not all kids. Mostly bad parenting that produces bad kids in my opinion. parenting is a difficult long term job, but there are lots that don't take that job seriously. But don't lump all kids together.
I remember being spanked by my teacher at the age of 5 because I came to a word in my reading book that I did not recognise and told her I didn’t know it.
Sparkly - // Never did me any harm ... //

Apart from giving you the notion that if you got hit, it's Ok for others to be hit as well?

I'd call that harm personally.
