There’s more vacancies than people out of work ,Liz Truss when she came to power said benefits would be reduced if it’s proven that the claimant wasn’t actively seeking work, she’s now facing a rebellion with calls for an increase for those on benefits

Up, Up to the Travellers :0)
Never mind Bobbi. I've just been told my comment was racist because I think British pensions should only go British people. And that would include all races whenever they became a British Citizen or wherever they lived in the world.
14.29 I used to go down, lol.

MissT it’s like peeing in the wind trying to get a point across with some , no doubt I’ll be taken to task for saying I don’t consider my state pension a benefit, it’s something I worked for and paid into the pot, but hey-ho

Must be a different one then Gully , there’s loads of them donchya know
i think when we see in the tabloids single mothers with six or more kids complaining thye need more money and a bigger house it irritates people who tried to do the right thing in managing there lives accordingly, plenty of errant fathers about as well.
How the heck can a state pension be classed as a Benefit When you have paid into it ???.

Well said fender
Because the Department of Works & Pensions says so. I had this argument with them many years ago.
i would hazard a guess that there arent many people on benefits who havent contributed ever. i wonder how many people are net contributors though. it seems unlikely to me that most pensioners paid more each month in taxes than they take out now in pension. I, for example am an average earner. My deductions come in at around £550 PM (not including my contributions to critical illness policy and personal pension).
I would expect to receive more than £550 PM in pension when i retire (ok so i expect i'll be retired for a shorter time than i worked, but i wasnt alsways paying that amount of NI and tax)
of course i might die before i get any of my pension :)
Bednobs - agreed - but all the deductions from previous years, from when you first started work if they went into a pension pot. and had interest compounded over 40 years, and I would hazard a guess you would be a net-contributor!
i absolutely know iwould nt be the medicine i take now is tens of thousand of pounds a year. The NHS birthed my 5 children. i am under no illusion i am a net extractor
We have not bothered getting Spanish nationality and why should I. No benefit! And we get a Spanish pension because we have worked and paid in ! I'm glad others don't think like you do! And check your facts. Spain for one won't allowed dual nationality!

Who was that to Neti?

Anything about our benefit system is always emotive , I knew that when I posted my OP, Truss doesn’t want illegals to get anything when the land on our shores and I could not agree with her more
I'm not talking about Spain Neti. I'm talking about British Pensions. So you still have British citizenship and are entitled to British pension. What happens in Spain is not relevant at all to this thread. I give up!
illegal immigrants don't get anything do they By nature of the fact they are illegal, they don't show up or apply for benefits?
Benefits should absolutely go up with inflation and the increase paid for by reducing the fraud.

Many women in particular are claimants either because they are retired with less than a full stamp or are low earners with childcare responsibilities.

Cut benefits for people who could work but who can’t find anything they feel like doing and we’d all be happier.

I could be wrong Bednobs and I’m sure somebody will tell me, but I thought they were given a small sum each day ??the new Home Secretary Suella Braverman has said earlier
