BRING BACK BORIS! Penny is still my choice of the rest but it now seems a real possibility that Boris could return. He's the only real big hitter and the party and the country need him back.

Gulliver I think you’ve done Boris a massive favour after all, keeping his name alive since he even took the PM job and after,so I guess it’s a thank you for this, we conservative voters will be forever in your debt

//Gromit, //His own MPs sent letters, voted against him and resigned in large numbers just 6 weeks ago. Will he get enough support ? //
Beth Rigby of Sky News tweeted this:
//Even MPs who resigned from his govt were on terrace y’day telling colleagues they’d now back him & members definitely will”//
Lol, you do realise she was pointing out how pathetic the self-serving sycophants will look in front of the public?
Don’t ever take up a post as a Tory spin-doctor! PMSL

A more balanced view:
/Tory party 'divided into four or five factions - they're looking for a unicorn'
A former government adviser says a unity candidate in the Conservative Party is a "unicorn" due to the divided nature of MPs.
Claire Pearsall, a former Tory adviser and now councillor, said it was unlikely that anyone would be able to enjoy the support of the whole party.
Asked if there was such a thing as a unity candidate, she told Sky News: "The party is very, very divided and it's divided into at least four or five factions, from looking at it.
"So you are looking for a unicorn, which is why I go back to the point that people are going to have to compromise on who that person is."/
Boris is a clown and definitely not a unicorn!

//If Johnson does prevail (and let’s face it he’s the one everybody’s talking about so i think he might) then some MPs will surely leave the party //
/That will be their choice but it they do they must be prepared to lose their seats at the next General Election./
They know they’re going to anyway, they just want the gravy train for them but car crash for us to continue for 20 months.
If they elected him again it’d make the poll tax riots look like a vicars tea party!

//Can you explain why Boris is on holiday (Caribbean?) while parliament is in session?//
For the same reason that children are taken on holiday during term time - because nobody is prepared to make the sanctions for doing so harsh enough.
But back to events: I only returned from abroad yesterday evening and missed the days "tumultuous/unprecedented/appalling/welcome/ridiculous" [delete as required] events. I only learned of Ms Truss's departure when I heard it from the taxi driver.
I haven't read today's papers (for what they are worth) but one thing puzzles me: I understand the 1922 committee has devised a plan to achieve in a week what it took two months to do in the summer (elect a new leader). Part of this involves those who throw their hats into the ring to secure the support of 100 Conservative MPs. The Conservative Party currently has 357 MPs (unless any of them died or resigned whilst I was away). So what happens if there are four (or more) contenders and none secures the required 100 votes of support?
