Naomi; just occasionally could you try to understand and respond to the essence of the points that are put to you, rather than quibbling over definitions or tenses or logical points? We should try to understand each other, not to automatically gainsay everything we hear. I think you dislike miscreants, but you do seem to assume guilt prior to proper investigation. Am I mistaken?

I know the Blazing Donkey. I stayed there for a wedding a couple of years ago. Mr Martin says the idea that he should turn his hotel (24 rooms IIRC) over to asylum seekers was absurd. It would mean letting down his staff and, most importantly, his customers. It would mean the cancellation of about 100 weddings. I quite agree with him and admire him for turning down the opportunity to see his business trashed beyond recovery.
For those wanting to know why tax increases were announced today, a quick calculation reveals that, assuming the Home Office would be outrageous enough to compel two asylum seekers to share a room, it would cost just shy of £500 pw (£25,000 pa) to accommodate each occupant of the Blazing Donkey in the manner to which I’m quite sure they would quickly become accustomed.

CASHIER, you were not speaking about the hotels up and down the whole country but those near you and claiming they are all full of asylum seekers.
I have no idea where you live so there could be a couple of hotels near you or there could be dozens.
In addition, as your definition of, "near me" could be different from mines, you could also be thinking of a much larger area than I would.

The sort of thing that is bound to happen if one is idiotic enough to allow freedom of movement for someone yet to be properly vetted and granted entry, and allowed a free hotel room to come and go from at will. If one is deliberately & inexplicably going to allow, nay encourage, an invasion of economic migrants, some of which will be bad apples, then sooner or later some poor so & so pays the price and the miscreant drops out of sight.
