//if the intent is ultimately to "discourage" people from being trans, //

There is also the problem of being sued that schools are facing. This legislation is to set the record to avoid that tap being turned on.
You are so right Ymb.
Proof that a hand can be overplayed. We want it all and we want it now.

Not how life works darlin'.
Naomi, I'm sure you'd personally never dream of wanting to discourage transgender people from being themselves, but it's not difficult to see, sometimes explicitly, that motivation written down in black and white -- see, for example, Janice Raymond in her 1979 book "The Transsexual Empire", where she argued that "the problem of transsexualism would best be served by morally mandating it out of existence". And she isn't alone in thinking that, sadly. I'm glad to hear that you'd reject such an extremist stance, though.

Good decision.

Don't unfortunate individuals, born with an issue, not normally look out to see if there's a special school that can help cater for their particular needs ? I know there's support for integration these days, but one ought not run roughshod of the needs of the school and it's other pupils in order to cater for individuals.
Go to the gun room with a bottle of whiskey and your old service pistol?
Which is exactly what i was trying to say OG, but you worded it better!
Interestingly ClareTG0ld (or perhaps you won't be interested), for the past year or so I've been in conversation on this topic with two young teenagers (a boy and a girl) who see it first hand in schools and initially assured me that the (and I quote) 'Loads' of people in their school who identify as the opposite sex were very genuine and that they were actively supported both by the school and by the other children. One year on they appear to have changed their minds. Now they tell me that the vast majority of them are attention seekers - and I suspect they're right. This stuff is being force fed to our children - and that has to stop. It's not fair to any of them - including those who really do have a genuine problem.
How we treat minorities in our society says a lot about what we are.
I don't pretend to have any answers, and despite what some think I rarely utilise a wooden spoon, but I do hope we can find a way to make the travails of life a little smoother.

What, like pampering to their ( The Activists not the everyday trans person) every whim at the expense of others' safety and 'rights' ?

How we treat women also says a lot about what we are. From your posts it would appear you would not even give women the vote.
Is education different for boys/girls/unsures? I went to a mixed school and we all learned together.
I don't believe it is the education taught in the lessons that are the point of concern lankeela. It's about the facilities, and the lies expected to be told, and the pushing of an unfortunate agenda, etc..
//The first point is that it frames all transgender people, young or otherwise, as potential threats,…//

I don’t think it’s that at all. It’s simply to reinforce the principle that in certain situations and circumstances people are segregated on the basis of biological sex (a fact) and not assumed gender (an opinion). This arrangement suits probably more than 99% of the population. So why should that vast majority have their wishes overridden by such a small minority?

The situation is becoming ludicrous and leads to events such as this:

https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/female-teacher-apologise-good-afternoon-girls-20k-a-year/

A teacher at a girls’ school (the clue is in the name) was forced to apologise to a class of eleven year old girls and eventually “managed out” of her position (by which I imagine she means constructively dismissed) because she greeted her charges with “good afternoon, girls”.

//This stuff is being force fed to our children -//

Indeed it is. Interestingly the protest I mentioned above took place shortly after the sixth form's "diversity and inclusion" prefects did an assembly on gender and pronouns.

Harsh as it may seem, single-sex schools are segregated on the basis of biological sex. A girl is a young female human being. If there are some male human beings in the class, firstly, parents of the other pupils need to question why they are allowed to be there. But if they are, they must either put up with being addressed as a girl (in an all-girls’ school) or their parents must seek education for them elsewhere.
I remember when I went to school, more than 60 years ago, there was a boy who was bullied by everyone. Most of his classmates, some of the teachers, and even the caretaker thought he was a fair target.
To them he was a fruit or a queer.
He disappeared from school and later we heard he'd hanged himself.
Can we find a way to cherish outsiders?

Protecting people from bullies should not mean caving into minorities at the expense of others. Long term that will have the opposite effect as resentment will build up.

Something lefties can never get is that actions have unintended consequences.
"guidelines"

so just verbal salad...the right on leftie teachers will still use the pathetic woke pronouns these fools are coming up with and play the stupid "today Matthew im going to identify as an aardvark" game
completely agree with clare... the agenda behind this is to make being trans more difficult by making discrimination against them easier. the language of "protection" is based on the idea that trans people, including those of school age, are more likely to be dangerous - that they are a predatory group of people... this is the essence of transphobia and i predict the government will continue to endorse it as part of their desperate and nasty "anti-woke" political rescue strategy... meanwhile trans young people in the real world will continue to suffer.

leaves an especially poor taste after a young trans girl was murdered by fellow teenagers a couple of months ago

Absolute codswallop. You have made that up or just read some drivel of TwitFace.

If not, show me a link to prove you havn't.
saying it's about "protection" is meaningless unless you think people need to be protected from trans people.
the idea of the predatory trans person is as old as the hills youngmafbog... they used to say exactly the same thing almost word for word about gay people

"our children are being force fed this garbage"

"they just want access to young kiddies"

"this robs children of their childhood"

it's exactly the same bigotry word for word that you would see against gay people 20+ years ago
