This latest is unbelievable.  Not only was the IOC decisoin luducrous but also outright dangerous.  Boxing is not a sport to play woke politics with.

This needs to stop NOW.

New Judge - // Nobody can judge gender Andy. That has become purely a  matter of opinion (which has led to most of this trouble).  //

I agree - but that does appear to contradict the 'walks like a duck ...' section of your post?

Yes Andy. But I was basing my argument on biological sex which, apart from the ultra-miniscule number of examples that are always quoted when this issue arises, is immutable.

Should anyone fart in my Whitbread there will be trouble.

nah Douglas, it's Tessa Sanderson.

16:19 you can't guarantee anything Tora, because in this case you have no information besides your own prejudices. This person was born female, to all intents and purposes has all the usual reproductive organs involved in being female (obviously, I can't check that, but it certainly appears that way), and has never had any surgery to lop off any male genitalia in order to become female.

In what way do you consider her "a geezer" other than the fact she could kick all our butts?

he is "deemed bilogically male" it says it in the article, the exasperation of the woman is also testament to that.

She is not "biologically male" do some research, read up on the report before jumping to conclusions.

the first sentence: "A boxer deemed a 'biological male' today won against an Italian woman in one of the most controversial Olympic bouts ever."

Not exactly unbiased reporting is it? The IBA ruling claimed she had YX chromosomes. She wasn't tested for testosterone levels and is a fully working female.

If there was any doubt, you'd have thought "drop your trousers" would be a standard test for a Russian run organisation like IBA.

It's also worth remembering that she comes from a country that where it is illegal to change your gender.

It may be one of those rare cases where a female genuinely does have male chromosomes. Still doesn't make her a bloke.

These two men are....men.

They did not have testosterone tests they had gender/sex tests. They were banned because they came back with an Y chromosome result.

Testosterone levels are an utter red herring in all of this. They are (like Caster Semenya) individuals with 46XY 5ARD - a DSD which only affects biological males. They do not have unusual levels of testosterone for a female they have normal levels for a male.....whatever their external genitalia and passports might say.

It is worth saying, that in no way should a transgender female be allowed to fight, but I'm far from convinced that this person is trans.

are you lot reading this:

"While Harry Potter author JK Rowling branded the contest 'insanity'. In a post yesterday, the gender-critical author wrote: 'What will it take to end this insanity? A female boxer left with life-altering injuries? A female boxer killed?'

Posting a video of the fight today, the author added: 'Watch this (whole thread), then explain why you're OK with a man beating a woman in public for your entertainment. This isn't sport. From the bullying cheat in red all the way up to the organisers who allowed this to happen, this is men revelling in their power over women.'" - This is clearly a bloke beating up a woman, how does worshipping this liberal BS override common sense so readily?

I'm not entering the argument but I have to say, I was surprised to see he adjusting her *** after the fight.

Blue moon alert, I'm more or less siding with Tora as he fends off a yer but, no but where his debater is reduced to rubbishing the source of the article when facts are pointed out.

Anyway, an open door for women beaters should they put in a few months training on the heavy bag.

as far as I know neither the IAB nor the IOC have specified exactly which tests were performed to assess whether or not Imane Khelif was eligible so I would be interested to know where jackthehat's exact diagnosis comes from

all the IAB said was that they confirmed the presence of XY chromosomes which can exist in a small population of women and seems a far more likely explanation to me

Tests were carried out which showed that the two boxers were genetically male. That is a matter of record.

The presence of the Y chromosome automatically determines that someone is a male. That is a matter of fact.

The only test which should be necessary is a simple cheek-swab which will categorically state man or woman. That is a matter of common-sense.

The issue for sports is that athletes with the XY DSD 5-alpha reductase deficiency (5-ARD), may be socialized as female, may be legally female, and may live and identify as female; but they are male.

The IOC should be ashamed.

JTH: "The only test which should be necessary is a simple cheek-swab which will categorically state man or woman. That is a matter of common-sense." - there ain't a lot of common sense about when it comes to this subject.

untitled: "all the IAB said was that they confirmed the presence of XY chromosomes which can exist in a small population of women and seems a far more likely explanation to me " -rubbish, as jack says:

"The issue for sports is that athletes with the XY DSD 5-alpha reductase deficiency (5-ARD), may be socialized as female, may be legally female, and may live and identify as female; but they are male." - a Y chromosome = male, end of.

Why is JKR always referred to as "gender-critical"? JKR says men cannot become women - that isn't 'gender-critical', it is an immutable fact, and a fact the vast vast majority of the population also believe.

Slightly off-topic I know, but it just irritates me.

"The presence of the Y chromosome automatically determines that someone is a male. That is a matter of fact."

are people with XY gonadal dysgenesis male? even though they can become pregnant?

you keep referring to "both boxers" but the thread seems to be only about one.
