Of course, they would never shoot innocent people, hold them without trial or charge, lie to the press, use chemical weapons like white phosphorous or napalm allowing people to burn to death. Dolly,if I was unfortunate to meet many people like you I'd be straight back on the boat to Ireland, don't worry. As it is, since I've lived in England I have found the majority of English people to be pleasant, level headed individuals with an amazingly finely tuned sense of fairness, and in case it hadn't come to your attention, a huge number of English people are embarassed and humilated by this Govt's involvement in Iraq on all levels, so shall I take them with me when I go and leave your little England for other like minded fools who'll be the ones crying loudest when they no longer have any civil rights that the rest of us were worried about years ago?

The strength of the democratic system should be that all people, even the nasty, are treated fairly and legally.

I have just heard on the news that one of these men was due for release, but no one had bothered to tell him. I would suggest the moronic American official who condemned the suicides as a political act of warfare, should take a closer look at his own words and the illegal actions of his government before passing judgement on men driven to suicide by injustice masquerading as the defence of democracy.

Guantanamo is far removed from my own sense of democracy in action and is possibly the most efficient recruiting sergeant the terrorists have ever had. Its presence does not make us safer in my opinion, particularly as some of the men detained were sold to the Americans by bounty hunters and warlords. These men profited financially and politically by the removal of certain individuals from Afghanistan, whether they were Taliban/Al Quaida, or not.

I was appalled when I heard the US spokeswoman saying the suicides were "great PR". It was soo insensitive, sadistic, disrespectful and just plain WRONG. The Bush administration says its waiting for the Supreme Court to get back with their decision on whether the 'detainees' should be tried in a civilian vs military court but Guantanamo needs to be shut down NOW. Bush is the worst thing to happen to North America since the white man first appeared on its shores.

In your rush to make the loudest Anti-American rant, you are confusing Iraq with Afghanistan and the muslim world in general. The suicides were 2 Saudi Arabs and a Yemeni. They were most likely picked up in Afghanistan (which is where the vast majority of inmates were captured).

Dom Tuk get your facts right ,I DID NOT tell noxlumos to go back where he came from.I said '' if you go back to Ireland you'll be safe from all of them " .I would think if anyone doesn't feel safe living in another country it would be best to go back home . I have never met such a vitriolic lot of people in my life .I also do not agree with the war in Iraq they should have been left to sort out their own troubles. I suppose to alot of you it was alright for Saddam Hussein to do what he did to his own people but aside from that Bush should just have concentrated on getting rid of Al -Queda (remember 9/11) or has that been so very easily forgotten.
