Lets just say that in 1945 Hitlers germany had won the war,would this country be any worse off,would we have blacks killing each other in cities,would we have muslims trying to kill us on the bus and on trains,would we have an open door to every piece of low life in the world to come and take advantage of whats on offer,
the reason i ask this is because my grandmother said to me that if my grandfather knew what this country would become he would have gone to prison rather than have fought the war.

millions of british soldiers were killed in the war and at the end of the day we joined the ec which is what hitler wanted a united europe but he went about it the wrong way.he wanted german supremecy.ive been to germany and believe me its a better place to live than here.we are a minority in our own country and your grandmother is right i bet thousands of ex soldiers think the same way.

there are too many unknowns & "what ifs" to even hazard a guess as to what Britain would be like now, had Germany prevailed in WW2 -
what would the nazis have done with what was then still a sizeable British Empire? would they have been able to control it, when modern evidence suggests their administration was so chaotic it could barely control itself?would they have permitted mass immigration of non-ayran races to europe?
more importantly, even had they won, would the nazi ideaology have lasted 60 years, or would it have dissolved as communism did in Europe in the 1990s?

given the nazi's attitude to judaism, it might be resonable to say that Israel would not have been created. and yet, might repatriation of Europe's jews to an enclave in the middle east have been seen as a more palatable "final solution" to German public opinion?
so, would there have been the same tensions in the middle east? if so, who would have been the enemy of Palestine and her allies?

We have freedom thanks to those who defeated Hitler. Do you really think that we would free from violence if we were being ruled by Nazis?

Would you want to live in a country where only those with the 'right' religion/skin colour/sexuality/political opinions survive? What would happen if one of your friends, children or siblings turned out to be gay, for instance? Would you happily turn them in?

I'm very sorry that your grandma feels the way she does. I also think that she's totally wrong. Be proud of your grandfather - what he did was a wonderful thing.

craigiep - I don't understand why anyone should take exception to Shilpa being called Indian. She is Indian, so. what's wrong with that? A couple of people on that show were American and I'm English, so can you understand what the problem is?

naomi24 what would you have said if Shilpa had called Jade's mother "That handicapped woman" rather than use her name? Shilpa is not a name I had heard prior to BB but it took only a couple of times hearing it to know her name so it's ignorance to say "that Indian."

I wonder if your grandmother has ever been in need of hospital treatment and benefitted from the thousands of 'those' people, like my mother who came over here in the 50s and 60s to work in the NHS, public transport and engineering industries went there was a real labour shortage in this country.

Hmm...and what about the Jewish people who are currently living here...I wonder what would've happened to them?

Hmmm, the problem is that the people that are coming over here are all uneducated. It doesnt matter what colour they are. its wrong to state that its just blacks, etc. As its not. Its bulgarians,polish,etc.
In their countries, thats how they live. What this country needs is a stronger ruler. Someone who doesnt give in to 'visitors' demands. (someone like me).
There are rules in each country and they should be enforced. Its wrong that the laws are changed to suit certain religions. Everyone should be treat with the same severity for shooting, raping, etc. This race card thing that everyone plays these days is just ruining the economy and the country.
Its about time some government had the bravery to enforce laws that are already existing...
