Come on get a grip! Who are these people complaining about what Prince Harry said in the video? **** is just short for for a person from Pakistan the same as Brit is short for a person from Britain and nobody gets pulled up for saying that! Rag head!!!!!!!! Come on this is a term for people Killing our soldiers, Who cares if we affend them and soldiers have always had nick names for the ones they were fighting. And swearing how dare he!! What Planet are these people off? This is the mallenium, people swear all the time. I defy any one who says they would'nt swear while in a war zone and constantly looking over their shoulder.
But civilised society is judged by its treatment of the weakest - individuals who are upset, hurt and offended by racial slurs.
Because a proportion of the abused are able to take abuse and not feel offended or intimidated is no reason what ever to ignore the plight of those who do suffer.
I find myself able to go through life without using any racial slurs in a 'jokey' or otherwise fashion, I really don't see the problem.
Not everyone's the same though. You might not find it insulting, but I'm sure that there are many who would find it offensive
But the lad in question DIDN'T find it offensive and it seems a little silly for everyone else to be up in arms on his behalf.
I neither use racist language or spend meaningful time with anyone who does. I concur that there are instances where great offence is caused AND intended by such language, I just don't believe that this is one of them.
As Andy-Hughes said on an earlier post - this thread has split into two subjects. To be honest, I'm not overly surprised by Harry's remarks, the question of intent on his part has been superceded by the discussion of the use of racist epithets in general.
However, it has got me thinking...if Harry plays his cards right, he could be the Duke Of Edinburgh for the new millennium!
As I said on an earlier reply, why is it that someone got absolutely annilhlated for referring to someone else as a
n!gger in a very friendly way with no malice whatsoever. At the time it was said this language was not acceptable, she was thrown off the programme and even had threats made against her. All this was without malice. Yet somehow it is OK for Harry to say something similar, without malice etc. etc. etc. Just because he is royalty? Is that it?
Spend a few seconds thinking about the historical use of the P-word and the N-word and the treatment that's been dished out alongside them. When we see ginger people being lynched for their hair colour, get back to me.
Thought about it, but blow me I can't find any proof of what you are saying.
Never heard of anyone dying because the P-word or N-word was used.
Never seen or heard of anyone brought to tears, because they were so called.
Never seen or heard of anyone lynched in this country for being Black, (maybe in America, but how is it this does not surprise me)?
But I have heard of people being killed in Africa and the Caribean for being White.
How very crafty, must use your method, oh! the freedom of it N!gger, N!gger, N!gger. Stop it, stop it, stop abusing your new found freedom of expression.
Would you care to address my other points now sp1814, regarding your offensiveness towards Prince Harry, and the latin for Black?
"But the lad in question DIDN'T find it offensive and it seems a little silly for everyone else to be up in arms on his behalf. "
Otherwise known as the Jim Davidson Argument.
My ! We are determined to be offended by a remark someone else made about another someone else, aren't we ?
If comparing my statement to any made by Jim Davidson makes you feel superior, Quinlad, fill yer boots..............but it doesn't hide the inherent silliness of your comment.
Harry, if you're reading this, may I offer my sincere apologies for remarking that your parentage is questionable....especially seeing as you're the first redheaded royal in at least three generations.
Especially in the light that your mother had a well documented dalliance with a red headed polo player.
Subsequently, Mr Hewitt claimed that they didn't meet until two years after your birthday...but as Mandy Rice Davis so eloquently put it...
Harry's aunt (Diana's sister) is redhead. If P.Charles doubted his son he would have had DNA tests - his perogative - and not to prove otherwise to ignorant morons like you.
Ok so some some small minded people do use this term and many others to insult people. I have seen boy with red hair be singled out and bullied through out high school because he was 'a ginger minger' on the other hand i had a muslim friend who herself refered to herself as p... and no offence was taken wen others called her thisThis was her nick name. Anything can be made offensive and clearly harry and friends were messing around as lads do and it was not ment to be hurtful at all. (in my opinion. mountain mole hill cme to mind)
Thats an odd one Hatless. It's usually the nose that is the dead give away where the Jews are concerned.
I am wondering what the Army would have done is the bloke saying the dreaded "P" word was just a bog standard squaddie or an officer without the royal tag.
Would it have been just plain ignored or would he have been courtmarshled for it?
Either way I think the royals are finished and it's come to the point of putting them out to pasture.
At least if you don;t like a president you can vote him out.
Tigerlily...............We're NOT Jewish (not that it would mater either way) but 'Jew Boy' was my sons tag and no doubt his comrades had other equally bizarre or offensive (not that offence was taken by them..............I can't speak for any passing civilians, mind).
Your views on the Royal Family probably colour (!?) your views on this matter, in any case......................and you've already given your card carrying rascist credentials in past threads...............
i havent been able to read all the comments but... why did Harry have to use that *P* word? you didnt see him saying..oh look at my *White* mate...so and so? if hes british(no doubt he will be) he could have said... 'heres my british mate.......' but what he said was wrong.
the *p* could b short for Pakistanian, but the *P* had always been a racist word, harry probably didnt mean it in a racist way... he just said a racist word by accident.
im British chinese and i HATE it when someone calls me a Chink, or ******, if i hear my mate say it........'heres my ****** friend.......' i would tell them not to use it because i would feel offensive.
if you think... why isnt *scottish* or *aussie* a racist word? well it depends how you use it.
