Yes, jake, we all need to be competitive to survive.
Unless, that is, you are prepared to sit around all day in the pub or betting shop spending the money the taxpayer has provided to sustain your existence. Those people do not need to compete at all and this is the nub of my argument.
It is absolute lunacy to contend that we must ship in foreign labour to sustain the economy when we have between two and five million souls (depending on how you count them) sitting round doing nothing. No, they cant all be brain surgeons, they cant all be IT experts, but as far as I know the jobs taken by the people who are the subject of this question are not all highly skilled. They do the very work which most people are capable of, but which many simply will not do. And, unfortunately, in among those coming here to work is a proportion coming here to milk the benefits system.
Until this country wakes up to this problem and stops showering the ******** with riches we will continue to decline financially and many people will, perhaps wrongly, lay the blame at the door of incomers.
It is a recipe for disaster and I only hope Im not around when the excrement finally reaches the air conditioning.
