Labour MP stabbed

Yet another stabbing, this time on a Labour MP as he held a surgery for his constituents.
I have read various reports on the incident in a number of newspapers, but once again chose the Daily Mail's report because they cover it more in depth.
Most of them failed to report that the assailant was of Asian appearance, wearing the clothes of a Muslim, I wonder why this was?
/// Acting Labour leader Harriet Harman expressed her concern saying: 'One of the great strengths of the British political system is the every day accessibility of MPs to their constituents but we can't have a situation where MPs are at risk.///'
Could this attack now see the end of this British tradition?

Important enough for a moderate Muslim to make the following statement,
/// Shahid Mursaleen, spokesman for the Newham-based moderate Muslim organisation Minhaj-ul-Quran UK, said: 'We are shocked and saddened to hear that Stephen Timms MP has been stabbed.///
//// 'Mr Timms has always been close to his constituency and a friend of Muslims living in east London. He has been a good friend of Minhaj-ul-Quran.///
/// 'We wish him well and his recovery to be soon and hope that he can resume his position as MP of East Ham soon.'///
It's not all about stirring up racial hatred as some of you would have us believe.
It's about attaining the most facts possible, so as to enable one to see the whole picture of what is really happening in our society.
It is people like you, that do more harm to race relations, by constantly not allowing free discussion on these matters.
Why try to cover the facts up, what have you to hide?

The ethnicity of the attacker is only of interest in relation to all other crimes with a bladed weapon, such statistics 'to enable us to see the whole picture' are best collected by non-partisan bodies and not self-selecting news media. In my opinion unless a description is needed to enable a suspect to be found, all such descriptions, objective or subjective, should not be used in the media prior to any subsequent legal proceedings. They serve no purpose and only lead to speculation and worse.
The DM report doesn't say she was wearing a burka (so not sure why this has been mentioned, and why should it mention what she was wearning? If it was a woman wearing orange shorts and a stetson, would they have mentioned that? (well yes probably!) but once again the DM is majoring on the fact it's someone in Muslim dress. I haven't seen the other reports but I gather from the radio news that the bulk of reports don't mention who did it, it's the fact that it was done that is being reported. The radio news said that there is no intention to stop open surgeries for MPs, and cited other incidents saying disasters don't stop things still taking place so why should this, it is hardly the norm for what goes on in MP surgeries. DM taking it usual angle on flagging up the "it's a Muslim" story - as OAG says, in depth.
/// The racial group or origins of this particular assailant is of no importance or relevance whatsoever........///
Since knife crime is an increasing problem by certain racial groups, and Mr Stephen Timms has regularly spoken out against knife crime in his constituency, I think the racial group of his assailant is very important.
Regarding the usual Daily Mail bashing, it has been proven that some news reports mentioned the suspected racial group of the attacker, others didn't so the criticism of the DM on it's own is not fair.
/// The radio news said that there is no intention to stop open surgeries for MPs,///
Very easy for someone on the radio to speculate, but since one MP has already been attacked by a samurai sword and his aide stabbed to death, and now this incident, don't you think that some form of protection will have to be introduced?
boxtops says "disasters don't stop things still taking place so why should this, it is hardly the norm for what goes on in MP surgeries".
To which I say "the number of deaths by stabbing and shooting, in this country was hardly the norm a few years ago, but only a fool would ignore the present dangers".

The fact is that anyone could have done the same thing, it could have been a bloke dressed like a Minister for example. It is security that should be the question not the fact of what like the woman looked.
Was MP Andrew Pennington killed by a Muslim in 2000?

What has this got to do with the crime in question?
A simple search would have answered your question, it would have also informed you that he was a county councillor not a MP.and he was killed by a white person, not in London but in Cheltenham.
Therefore the only thing these two crimes have in common, is the fact that both were MPs injured while conducting a surgery for their constituents.

Come on AOG, you're not fooling anyone with this.
The Mail approached the story in line with its readership - all papers do the same.
The Mail has a noted and continuous approach to immigration, and ergo to people who are identifiably 'foreigh', which panders to its readership's fears and predjudices.
The Mail cover the story in 'more depth' becaause it ticks two major boxes in its readership demographic - 'Heavens to betsies we're all doomed ..." and "It's thos foeigners coming over here to stab our politicians ..." however factually (!) based either of this attitudes may be is not discussed in their 'in depth' coverage.
'Could this attack see the end of this British tradition?'
Which one? The one that allows people from other nations to come and settle here and enrich our culture, as they have done since population begain, or the one that allows people access to their MP?
Either?
Neither?
Both?

Apologies for the error, Mr Pennington was assisting an MP when he was killed. The point I was making was that the religious belief or appearance of the attacker has no bearing in this matter yet you are the one who raised it and then say "It's not all about stirring up racial hatred as some of you would have us believe"
The death of a man was not enough to end the practice so why should this latest one do it? It's the fact that a Muslim was involved that is at the heart of this thread is it not?
