Isn't the time long overdue that certain restrictions are put on these mobility scooters?

1/ They should not be allowed to anyone, only persons that cannot get about in any other way. i.e.(doctors certificate needed)

2/ Persons who do not hold a driving licence, should be required to take a driving test to prove their ability to handle a scooter.

3/ All scooters should be safety examined each year.

But let us not only target mobility scooter users, Third Party Insurance, and road safety tests should be mandatory for pedal cyclists also.

/// well in fairness AOG, they are not hard! You press 1 lever for forward, 1 for back and turn the handles to steer. ///

That is how to get one moving, in a certain direction, no not very difficult at all.

The problems occur when a rider has no road sense and very slow reactions.

/// AOG - I can assure you that I can steer/ride one of them with no problem at all - why don't you stand in front of me and I will show you! ///

Since you only know how to steer/ride one of these scooters, mind if I give it a miss, since you haven't said you know how to stop.
This is a public forum AOG and don't talk to me about "rude" you are often rude to other posters here if they disagree with you.

I hope the brakes work redhelen, I'd hate you to have the terrible guilt of having maimed a whinging dictatorial fascist on your conscience !
my neighbours mom has a mobility scooter and it doesnt go fast enough to glean interest from any of her grandchildren.

its a shame that so many genuine users of mobility scooters will be treated with contempt because of a tiny minority
"other people's conversation"? On a public website?

I must say, I'm not quite clear why blind people should want one or be allowed to have one, but that's just hearsay - even the Daily Mail newshounds don't seem to have located anyone like this, they're just reporting gossip.

As for the non-blind, there are driving tests for ordinary cars, but these do not seem to have stopped accidents happening, or people driving the wrong way down motorways. Tests are no guarantee of anything (unfortunately).

And why stop at pedal cyclists? We should have third party insurance for any pedestrian; think of the havoc they cause when running into cars. (I've done this myself and I almost dented the car. It more than dented me.)

You have made an untrue statement here, now I would be obliged if you show me proof of where I have been rude just for the sake of it, as you have on many occasions.

I have said many times on AB that I only return with rudeness, if first I have had rudeness shown to me.

/// hope the brakes work redhelen, I'd hate you to have the terrible guilt of having maimed a whinging dictatorial fascist on your conscience ///

/// A whinging dictatorial fascist, /// Can't get more ruder than this, in fact it is bordering on a slanderous remark, and it is only because of your cowardliness of hiding behind the anonymousness of a site such as this, which prevents you from physical harm or ending up in the law courts.
they aren't insured or designed for road use and yes I think the speed should be governed on them. I think that cyclists should pass a test and be insured and pay road fund licence.
Can't get ruder than the truth eh AOG ;-) hurts doesn't it.
/// prevents you from physical harm ///
So, at the end of the day you ARE just a dictatorial right wing miscreant who furthermore believes that a man has no right to throw his weight around verbally with another unless he's prepared to experience physical assault.
That's just a bit worse than "bordering on slanderous" :-/
QED: "cowardliness"/"physical harm" LMAO - the classic words of the playground bully, a bit like "yeah, come here and say that".
You're damn right I'm going to react to you as I see fit from the safety of my online anonymity, people like you are the very types I would avoid on a Saturday night.
