More on smoking.....
Does anyone else do this? When walking down the street and someone in front lights up I always have a dilema should I speed up and go past or drop back further to avoid inhaling their digusting filth? I have to then judge their walking speed to determine. While we are at it, how come no matter what direction the wind is or no matter how strong the smoke always drifts backwards from the death tube sucker? Come on smokers show some consideration to us walkers and stop it please!

I just ignore them and get on with my life, smelling a cigarette while walking down the street ain't gonna kill you, if it bothers you that much just pass them!
Where I work the staff also disappear for 10 mins every now and then the rest of us do not stop for coffee, only at prescribed breaks.
Smoking during working hours should be banned, smoke during prescribed breaks only!
Im an ex 50 a day smoker.

Where i work we have had to clock-out for years everytime we want a cigarette and go and stand in what we call the Bus Shelter. I dont think this is fair as i have plenty of colleagues who spend 20 mins or so in the toliets or who wander round the building gathering up all their friends to walk down to the canteen to get something to eat or to get Coffee etc. For some strange reason this is acceptable but for me to go and have a cigarette and i only have two whilst at work (which takes 10mins max) i must clock-out and lose time, doesnt seem that fair that lots of individuals waste a huge amount of time doing various things, none work related i hasten to add. I think this yet another attempt to get at the smokers and i doubt it will ever stop now.
The Bus Shelter that we have to smoke in has now had 50% of its panels removed so its not entirely enclosed as inhaling smoke is bad for you! Yeah we know that, thats what happens when you smoke but this was recent Government Legislation so now it is cold, Windy and wet and not very pleasant in the colder months, absolute madness i think and totally unecessary.

I so agree with Eddie. If smokers want a fag break then time lost should be docked. I worked in a call centre where smokers were allowed to go outside for fag breaks during their working hours. The rest of us had to work to strict hours and breaks right down to the minute. I think I should have been allowed to go outside and eat a choc. bar when ever I wanted.
/// No other part of society fills our space with disgusting smells ///
You have never walked down a street on a very hot summers day, the day the local council bin men empty the wheelie bins, after a fortnight of stagnation.
/// 500+ poisonous chemicals ///
500 plus, now that is really frightening, what are all these poisonous chemicals?
It is little wonder that the streets are not littered with dead bodies, especially after being able to survive the deadly fumes for motor vehicles.

<<<<It is little wonder that the streets are not littered with dead bodies, especially after being able to survive the deadly fumes for motor vehicles.<<<
But they are not.
Why? because many of the chemicals are not carcinogenic and the ones that are, are in so small a concentration in such a vast environment that they play little or no part in cancer formation.
Compare that to the number of carcinogens in cigarette smoke in an often very confined area and the answer may be a little more obvious.
The bottom line is the concentration of carcinogens that enter the upper and lower respiratory tract.

So I guess smokers dont go to the toilet then or walk the floors ?
8 mins a fag, did that include going outside, I doubt it so lets round to 10 mins. From observations and past personal experiance 6 smokes during the day excuding lunch means 1 hour lost.
That is clearly unacceptable.
And to the toilet comparison, how many are spending an hour on the bog at your place of work ? must have comfy khazis thats all I can say.
