Report of animal abuse

When leaving work yesterday I witnessed a drunken yob beating his dog. It was in a secluded area and only myself and him around. I screamed at him to stop and he turned on me. I hid so I could follow where he would possibly going and saw him enter a block of flats. I then found a securtiy guard in the building next door who said the man is very well known and visits that park about 3/4 times a day, terrorises people and often beats his dogs (!!!??) BUT that the police wont do anything!! When I got home I rang the police who said I was right in doing so, took all of the details and said they will investigate. Now, Im guessing this will just be a case (IF they do see him) that he will just deny it and that will be that. My point is I will NOT give up until this man has his dog taken from him. If nothing is done what else can I do? The police said not to call the RSPCA as it was a matter for them.

Video it and put it on youtube, almost guaranteed to get a prosecution, its been done many time now. A result every time! Make the barsteward pay!!

If his dog is taken away it may not be rehomed and will be put down, so how bad was the beating, would you prefer to be dead?

The beating was very bad, stamping on its head, punching it in the head, it was horrendous!
So if it actually came to it then im sorry yes, the dog is probably better off dead! I will do my best to help out though if it does come to them needing rehoming (there were 2 dogs)

At least they will have some sort of a chance if they are taken away which is a damn sight more than they have now if they suffers this on a daily basis - which I have been told they do.

I have bought my camera to work so will be going over daily to see what happens.

Ollie, I think you're right, they would have at least a fortnight of decent treatment, best of luck with that. Keep us informed, whatever you do won't be easy but you'll get lots of moral support here.

Thanks everybody. I really appreciate your support, my husband was furious that I had followed him and confronted him as its an extremely rough area of the city. He also said I shouldnt pursue it as I could get hurt or even worse but something HAS to be done. People cant continue walking by! Instinct just takes over when things like this happen. I cannot describe to you what a low life peice of **** this man was, he was drunk, yelling, falling all over the place and the dogs were doing nothing, I mean nothing and he just began laying into one of them. The dog made no sound whatsoever when he was punching it, it just fell down and took it all which makes me think also that this is a common occurence and it is used to it.

I truly do not care what it takes, I will fight this until the dogs are taken away. I will be careful, the park is literally next to the security entrance to my work so I can sit in between both sites and just wait.

Im just glad he goes there often and hasnt just disappeared into thin air. Gives me a chance to do something for them. He will get his comeuppence.

Absolutely. Tell the RSPCA now. Give them all the details of what you've told the police, which station you reported it to and the name of whoever you spoke to. There's a possibility that the police will just log it and do nothing, but with the RSPCA on their tail there's more chance of a prosecution. Also, I think the RSPCA can take an animal away from somebody they think is maltreating it.

Yes Ollie, report it to the RSPCA or the RSSPCA. Friend did this when a near neighbour constantly beat his dog. It was removed and he was fined heavily and banned from owning another animal. Animals can't speak so we must speak for them.

The RSPCA might be the better bet, you don't want the police accidentally giving out the name of the complainant to the guy concerned which they might be required to do if the matter goes forward to prosecution. The police also don't like to be seen as incompetants and they may not want their lack of reported action to be publicised further.

If i had seen it i don't know what I would do, I 3 dogs and 2 cats and also pay money to the RSPCA. I probably would have took his dog and give him a taste of his own medicine.

To answer the other writer, the dog should be put down rather than go through this.

Film him as Ratter says, but take it the police, not down the youtube route. To be blunt, i'd give up on the RSPCA personally, they are quite frankly a waste of time. Unless there's money and or publicity in it for them, they won't help you- IMO anyway.

The police have may have suggested leaving it with them and not the RSPCA because the offender may be "known" to them (history of offending). It may be that they are already involved with other agencies on several matters involving the individual. However this cannot be assumed and asking them will not tell you anything.
Get as many agencies involved as possible. Have you contacted the local council?
They should have a dog warden service who can put observations on him and
record evidence too, it's worth a try & they hate abusers so are keen to be seen to be helping. Good luck and well done.
