Man walks into advertising dept of his local paper and asks "How much is it to put an advert in the paper?"
"£5 per inch" replies the assistant
"Oh no, that's far too expensive, I could never afford it"
"Well, if you tell me what you're selling I'll see what we can do"
"A 40 ft ladder" he says
