This is more a rant as opposed to a question, so it'll get kicked off soon, but anyway........I clean forgot about it: I have no excuse, I just forgot.

So, have tried to arrange for a flower delivery from a local florist, the same florist I use probably once a month, and asked for what I usually have sent which is 35.00..........................the cheeky outrageous profiteering bunch of scum bag pond life have tried to charge me 75.00: christ, I always thought 35.00 was taking the michael for a few posies, but trying to charge 75.00 is undefendable. So, I told them to poke it and that I am never going to use them again.

Why is it deemed acceptable by the florist industry to rip us off just because its Valentine's Day?

Im sure you would do the same if you were that florist! There is money to be made and they are exploiting it.
It's simple supply and demand. Demand for roses (and other flowers) explodes on Valentine's Day and since the supply cannot similarly explode (although doubtless flower wholesalers attmept to have as many flowers mature as near the day as possible) the price rises. If it didn't, people would be complaining that they couldn't get hold of roses within a week of Valentine's Day.

I don't mind an increase in view of the fact that they are probably busy, additional staff costs etc..., but an increase of 40.00 is disgraceful.

They are now up there with traffic wardens, lawyers and estate agents in my view.

Its just like travel companies they put their prices up when they know mopre people go on holiday and  the same with the florist, its how they make their money over the year really, explotation yeah but doesn't every company do it in one way or another!

Just because every one does it doesn't make it right. A Flanker8 has my full support.

Stand up and fight brothers and sisters! Flowers for the people!

DURRR!!!!
Have you never heard of MARKET FORCES?!?!?
SUPPLY AND DEMAND?!?!?

I have seen some REEEEEEALLY stupid questions on this website, but that one takes a whole barrelful of biscuits!!!!!!!!!!
theres no need to be like that
theres no need to be like that bernardo
sorry i didn't mean 2 post that twice =P
you are ripping ourself off.  Surely you could have managed something more original than what you normally send!

Bernardo - you really are an idiot: I said it was more of a rant than a question, I just wanted to vent my spleen

And why do you find it necessary to belittle what other people post? If you think a question is stupid, just simply move on: if you disagree with a subject/topic, use reasoned argument to provide a counter view. You insult people far too often on this site, and it is not welcomed.

You are an objectionable little man.

I agree with you, Flanker 8. I think this is an outrageous increase and I'm glad that you didn't decide to buy the flowers anyway. I really do not like this exploitation. If more people acted like you and refused to pay such prices, then people such as these florists would have to rethink. I understand a small increase at certain times in the year but this is ridiculous.
flowers also go up for mothers day..its just greed..the day after everyone reduces their left over flowers before they wilt and die..your other half is very lucky my husband of 26 years has never bought me anything..he bought a bag of scratchings home last night said they were for valentines day and ate them himself..i have never had any flowers off him ever..he says its a waste of money ..if i want flowers then i buy them myself..

I have been reading this site for about a month now, and although this is my first message, I'm afraid it is a negative one. I too have noticed that bernado insults people, in fact of all the contributors bernado is the only rude one I have come across. Such a shame. Clealy he has 'issues'.

I have never insulted anyone.  I have always been extremely polite, reasonable, tolerant, and open-minded, as well as helpful, curteous, informative, factually accurate, and lots of other positive adjectives.  My previous answer was (obviously) satirical and tongue-in-cheek, just as the original question was obviously satirical.
Back to the original post, friends. Imagine if all suppliers cited 'market forces' (or 'supply and demand') to increase prices like Flanker8's florist - gas prices would go up by over 100% during the winter, the next Harry Potter novel would be released at 30. Nah, I reckon it's just greed. And stupidity. Flanker8 says he spent 35 per month there, well they've just lost that regular order.
