I've gone wobbly!

All of a sudden, from yesterday in fact, I've gone a bit wobbly, such as when I get out of bed, though not fast and sometimes when I look up or down. There's no pain or nausea though, just a wobbly kind of feeling. Could this be due to something within the ear and is it treatable; would I have to see my doctor? Ta Muchly.

Hi Sqad, I'm 61 and I'm not on bp tablets...my bp is usually very good whenever I go to the gp and have it checked.

It´s sounds as though it is vertebro-basilar insufficiency which is where the blood supply to the brain is temporarily deprived of blood, commonly due to some arthritic change in the cervical spine.
No big deal and it is something that one has to live with rather than any permanent cure.

See your GP for a general MOT.

Not to argue with the venerable sqad, vertigo is not uncommon and incorporates sme of the symptoms you describe.
Is there a sensation of things spinning, even when lying down, that goes away after a few minutes of lying with your eyes closed? If you're standing and you quickly put your head back (like looking up at the ceiling) do the symptoms manifest? Have you had a head cold or other nasal congestion?

The point is, vertigo (called by other names as well) is simply the result of the eyes and ears disagreeing on your "place in space". Usually caused by an inner ear infection or congestion...

have just had a session with this myself - saw an ENT specialist yesterday - ears were perfectly clean except for a piece of hardened wax on the eardrum - he removed this and I'm much, much better. Was very dizzy when turning when I was lying down and occasionally if I looked up or down quickly. Have to go for a scan soon purely belt and bracers - nothing sinister whatsoever. He was reluctant to manoeuvre my neck as I have problems in that area but as Sqad has already mentioned, dizzyness can be as a result of a temporary interuption of the blood supply to the brain.

Thank You All Very Much Indeed and though I didn't want to have to mention it, Karen has brought up the question of my blindness, which might be summat or nowt for though I can't see if 'the world' is spinning...smile...it certainly feels like it is; now and again. So, All You Good People, I think a visit to my GP is needed here, though I'm loathe (loth?) to go, just in case she finds summat else...smile....aaaargh!...smile.

I hope you don't mind me mentioning it woodelf, but having had labyrithitis in the past, I know it affects the vision. I just thought since you hadn't said the room appeared to be spinning this might have swayed sqad against it being an inner ear problem. smile

Your comment that you feel it when you get out of bed...and when you look up or down made me think of BPPV.....benign paroxysmal positional vertigo-which I have suffered with. Basically-crystals within the inner ear are dislodged and cause a sensation of imbalance.

karen,,,,that is quite an interesting point that you raise about the blindness, but I cannot see any connection between that and her unsteadiness, as she would still feel the room spinning although not seeing it, if it was true vertigo due to an inner ear problem.
