Very nasty.  My daughter had her leg gashed on the ice rink when she was a teen, had to be stretchered off and stitched up.

I don't know how these accidents can be avoided, the blades need to be sharp.

Apparently a freak accident, a quick google show that 23 have died on the ice since 1905

It is a freak accident and is a sad story.

I read that earlier.  A young fit man.  Very sad indeed.

Very preventable.

Freak accident it wasn't.

Of course it could have been prevented - stop such dangerous activity.

The same applies to other 'sports', e.g. motor racing, boxing.

Yeah, great thinking...also  put an end to crossing the road and swimming whilst we're at it.

End prescriptions too.

Roy - If you suggest it was not a freak accident  - what was it?

Only the player who inflicted the injury will know that.

You were present at Sheffield Arena at the time then Roy were you ?

2.08pm - seems you're suggesting eliminate all risk; ain't never going to happen.

My 6.2, 15 stone 15 year old Loosehead was dazed this morning when he got a knee to the head in a tackle and now has a massive shiner. They insisted he go off and he was most upset because he was pleading that he was OK to carry on playing.

Risk exists in sport, and the participants accept those risks because they enjoy what they do.

No.

Roy - Are you suggesting that the accident was deliberate, which would make it murder?

There does not appear to be any investigation into the possibility of foul play.

If I were a friend, team mate or family member of Adam Johnson, I would want to know why despite being on his feet he too a skate to the throat.

We shall see.

Roy - That doesn't mean this was not an accident.

There is no mention of any suggestion that this was anything other than a tragic accident.

It's awful, but I do have sympathy for the skater who may also have been involved in this dreadful accident .

Roy - Are you suggesting that the accident was deliberate, which would make it murder?

How would it make it murder?

Ice hockey players are trying to hurt each other all the time...sometimes when you go to hurst someone it ends up far more serious than you intended.

I hope it wasn't intentional but regardles that won't bring Adam Johnson

Because if someone deliberately slashed someone's throat and he died as a result, then that makes it murder.

But you started off saying it was not an accident - now you are contradicting that post by saying that you hope it was an accident.

Which is it?

It was at best a very, very, very, avoidable accident.

Roy - You are now retracting your original statement.

In the mele of ice hockey, when people fall over each other, and arms, legs, hands, and feet are flying everywhere, how exactly was this accident 'avoidable'?
