Utter nonsense. I have always worn short-sleeved shirts, with, and without ties. Most offices in Britain have still to embrace air conditioning and I have always found them to be far too hot and stuffy, winter and summer. There no reason that a chap can't look smart with a short-sleeved shirt, other than old fashioned prejudice. Jeeves still lives it would...

don't look right with ties do they?
One looks a "prat" with a short sleeved shirt and a tie.
If one wears a short sleeved shirt, then a tie should not be worn.

Mind you...some people look "prats" whatever they are wearing.......
you're right sqad, especially if it's set off with shorts, socks and sandals
Short sleeve shirts are casual wear and should never be worn with a tie.
LOL..^^^^^^

And they happen to be German.......
only worn by old men and young boys.

I used to work for a Financial Services company that had a very strict dress code.....wearing tweeds in Town was a sackable offence. When I wore formal, M+S short-sleeved shirts, it was like farting in chapel.

And yet this dress code didn't seem to extend to its women members of staff, that could and did turn up for work dressed in pretty much whatever they wanted .....dresses with no sleeves at all, plunging necklines and jeans. Don't even get me started on their shoes !

Men need to stand up to this kind of bullying and assert their right to dress
smart but feel cool and relaxed, if that is their want. Us men have nothing to lose but our chains !
mikey,,,,,,,,,,,,as I said for old men and young boys . :) :)
I'm with Mikey on this one. I ways wear short sleeve shirts but only wear a tie if I have an external meeting. Stems from when I was in the forces - always preferred shirt sleeve order - rolled up sleeves, open neck - buttoned down cuffs had to wear tie
If I wear a long sleeved shirt I usually roll the sleeves up anyway. They must be rolled up past the elbow to show my working class credentials:-)
tattoos ?
anneasquith...I am far from being a boy these days but I have to admit to being a few days short of my 61st birthday...am I old yet ?

My God...how the years creep up on you !
Could this have been started by the cuff link brigade I wonder ?
Short sleeved shirts are easier to iron.
They are neither one thing nor the other. If one doesn't want sleeves then one must be in a casual situation and good taste suggests a Tee shirt, if one want sleeves then one doesn't want them cropped off making one look daft. If one wears a long sleeved shirt one have the option of rolling the sleeves up if desired. If one have a brainstorm and dons a short sleeved shirt they have no sleeves to speak of to roll down if the weather gets cooler. Short sleeved shirts are produced only so women can amuse themselves telling their partners, "I can't see what's wrong with them", and possibly wasting money buying one 'for them'. Meanwhile they are a taste abomination unto the world. Apart from that they're fine.
anneasquith...I don't have any tattoos yet, although I nearly did get one when I was about 55. I wanted Llandudno tattooed somewhere the sun doesn't shine but the chap with the needle gun said that he might only be able to get as far as Ludo !

( the old jokes are always the best ! )
fluffing joke what next people over 50 should only wear crackerjack clothes
i'd have asked for Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch
Blimey, ael, that's a bit of a mout.........................No, Tilly!
Anne - yes I have one on my left arm but don't see the relevance. Tilly - too right they are. OG - lol
