Utter nonsense. I have always worn short-sleeved shirts, with, and without ties. Most offices in Britain have still to embrace air conditioning and I have always found them to be far too hot and stuffy, winter and summer. There no reason that a chap can't look smart with a short-sleeved shirt, other than old fashioned prejudice. Jeeves still lives it would...

By the way, Richard Ayoade looks bl**dy awful in your link Zacs-master .......everybody know that you shouldn't wear a patterned tie with a patterned shirt. At least it wasn't a diagonally-striped striped tie with vertically-striped shirt ! That sort of thing would have had Jeeves packing a bag and leaving for a spot of shrimping at Bognor, and who can blame him.

Although the costume designer obviously wanted him to look
ghastly in the part.
Abomination or not. They are still easier to iron.
"a spot of shrimping at Bognor"

is that legal between consenting adults now??
Much ado about nothing, now to start a real debate on dress code I agree with Mikey over female dress code, but let anyone criticise them, and you do so at your peril.

Incidentally while on the subject, I read the other day that the wearing of sandals with socks, was 'in' this year.
'In' in Frinton, AOG?
Long sleeved shirts in summer to avoid sunburn, Short sleeved shirts in winter with long sleeved woolie on top & definately no tie ever.
Smarter than that ? Lots of things. A shirt with proper length sleeves for a start.
I don't think the problem is short sleeves and ties but which shirt with which tie. The checks with the broad badly tied stripe tie is a no no.
What about braces on top of shirts?
AOG...how do you wear braces under a shirt then !

As regards to socks and sandals, as they used to say, Folkstone for the Continent, Frinton for the incontinent !
AOG...09.10...100% smart !
"AOG...how do you wear braces under a shirt then !"

Simple - you leave your shirt untucked. You can still wear a tie if you want to - and a belt if necessary. All you have to do is to make sure that your jacket is longer than your shirt tails. :-)
Men have very few sexy bits....but in the summer sun bleached hair on slightly tanned arms is quite a turn on...so I love short sleeved shirts on men.....and if a man has a bit of style and class he knows which tie to wear with which shirt......
You'll gather I like ties too......☻
My favourite "Simpsons" quote, Marge, "Oh Homer, nobody wears a tie with a short sleeve shirt." Homer, "Sipowicz does!".
i'm so confused by the conflicting posts that i have decided to go topless if we have a summer
I agree, gness. Men's hairy forearms are lovely and should be on permanent view. I hate ties, however. To me it says "owned!"
Whooohooo..Ael.....but you'll still wear a tie I hope...☺
Pixie....a tie is the one article of men's clothing that you can remove seductively.....x
