Many thanks Foxlee2. I had thought of the second word all aong but have never heard that expression! What a difference it makes at this frustrating stage of the quiz to get some help. It keeps you going. Can anyone give me a hint for 62?
Thanks Gen2, I can see where I was going wrong now. Will look in Chambers in the reference library tomorrow, mine 1996, the 21st century dictionary, not as good as others. My trusty old Collins not coming to the rescue on this.
Thanks Mtsgirl - got it now. At the same time I think I'm learning more about the technique of getting some of these answers. I know Gen2 gave advice on 73 but i still haven't got it. I realise the word is obscure but is there a straightforward anagram involved?
P potter I agree with you that 73 is one of the most tricky....I have even been sitting in the reference library going through a book of Native American baskets but judging by what Gen2 says it is not as involved as that. Still haven't got 44, 56, 79 and 99 either. Clues please!!
73 - is a type of North Ameican basket or box but it is a very uncommon word. Concentrate on "order" and reverse it.
44 - abbreviation for right and for court
79 - synonym for grizzled old fellow
Thanks Gen2. Thought that might be the case. I'll work on that more assuredly now.
Hi Mttsgirl,
44 Answer is an obsolete word for a standard (as in flag). Rest of clue gives you the word pretty straightforwardly.
56 Don't forget the article when you're including the word for 'monkey' in the answer!
79 I haven't got it either.
99 Start off with word for 'hold on to' as in 'don't give away' and you should get the answer.
Good luck!
p-potter. Why suspended over (as opposed to in)? Why river (as opposed to lake etc)? In crosswords, river is usually "r" or a short river name (Dee, Don, Tees, etc). I am really not sure but am not convinced by keepnet.
Badger 4 and Ppotter Keepnet was one of my pencilled in possibles for 99 but I could not see how it worked will have to keep looking as I am for the remaining 4
Badger4 for 73 Just one more little bit of help please regarding order are we talking of John Lennon sending his back? If so does this odd word begin with E if it's an order reversed? Thanks
