Can anyone recommend a good lavender oil please? I've bought them in the past and they just didn't smell right somehow. It's mainly for refreshing wheat packs, pillows etc.

Baldwin's of the Walworth Rd in London ( not far from the Elephant and Castle) are true herbalists and do a postal service. They will make it clear whether they are selling the true flower oil or artificial versions.
By the way, they sell wonderful Pot Pourri oils and lots of other perfume oils.

Nah, no money just the fame. Someone did an article on collecting antique hyacinth glasses and didn't mention that modern hyacinth bulbs have bigger heavier flowerheads which are just about guaranteed to make the vase topple over and smash....I just bunged off an email to the ed and said buy the smaller hyacinths that are sold for naturalising and they published it.
well, that was a short night, awake before 6am local time...no idea why, my eyes wanted to close, my brain obligingly stopped turning over, but I just didn't actually fall asleep again. I think I will have to find the switch that turns me off and give it a prod with a screwdriver.

I had a letter published in BBC History once - some article had claimed the Stuart kings were too unpopular to have nicknames, and I said what about the Merry Monarch, then?

Looks like another sunny day here, but I have an osteo appointment as my neck is out of synch. Maybe that is where the missing switch is hiding.

neti, is your ringworm famous at all?

Oh that's a good point woofy, they are big. I grew some City of Harlem indoors and they leant over. I planted them outside afterwards and years on they still come up...the scent is knock out.
oh yuck jno. Yes Robi the new ones are stunning aren't they. I prefer hyacinths outdoors, the scent seems to be more magical.
WHY DOES EVERY THREAD HAVE TO INVOLVE GARDENING?? Worms are bad enough!

Morning all...It's yet another grey, mizzly, drizzly day here.
I had a letter published in the Judy comic once...haha.

oops, didn't see you sneak in there last night jno...it'll be all that trying to get the last dregs out of your glass that's given you a crick in the neck.

I suppose we should try a change of scenery, are you all fed up with the lavender?
Morning all
Yes another grey day here too Robinia .
Hope everyone is OK .
We're going to venture over the bridge to get a few bits and have a pub lunch later.
I like lavender but perhaps we ought to shift ;-)
Have a good day all...see you later .

Good almost afternoon. We all slept in today. Bit of an issue here as dogs who have been walked in the forest are dying of kidney failure. Its not near where I walk mine but it has happened in two unrelated areas, one about 30 minutes away so i decided to hold off on walks yet again grr for a couple of days to see if the situation becomes any clearer. In any case it was foggy this morning and forecast for tomorrow so no great loss. If its not one thing its another....
I watched that program on the poor American children too. I mean i know they chose those particularly but it struck me forcibly how thoughtful and articulate those girls were. Sis who goes over there on holiday a couple of times a year says that american poverty is the great untalked about and I found that from my short time over there as well. Supermarkets over there had food drives when we were there, you were encouraged to add extra non perishable basics to your trolley and put them in collection baskets at the door for distribution locally. Its interesting that Obama seems to be the first pres willing to admit that america has poor people who need help.
Hi All. Comics Dogs Puppets are all called Judy - whatever next I ask myself?!?

I'm back now and have read everyone of your posts I've missed. Good to read and keep up...And your chat about prams was good. I had a coach pram which I bought off a neighbour for the princely sum of £2.00. it was so springy and Steady looked so comfortable in it.
Here it is:- http://i46.tinypic.com/fnslzt.jpg - hope it works.

I had a lovely 5 days with my friend who is now really on the mend. We walked a lot and the weather was helpful there. On Saturday we went to see We Will Rock You in London. It was fabulous and the dancing, singing and story were brilliant. Of course you have to like Queen and their music to feel like I did :)

I had a busy day yesterday getting to Sainsburys and School so today is a bit of a lazy one. One of my Tai chi friends had a cataract op last Sunday so I'm off out to see her for a cuppa in a bit. Then later it's footie for me on the telly.
I did start to watch that Mayday thing on a Monday night but gave up. I think in the end it may be one of those stories that can be told in an hour.
I did watch that programme about the poor of America and I agree with you Woofy the daughters seemed really intelligent.
I hope you are all having a good day and I'll see yer later 'gater(s).
It's good to be back! But paradoxically I didn't want to come back! Crazy Eh!!

Just clocking in now, have been ot and about and got my lamisil! Had an email from Eastbourne Carnival committee asking me for suggestions as to how to improve their carnival so I have told them!

We have food drives here, in every supermarket there are trollies for food, but it is for the people of the island who have lost everything, or indeed never had much! There is a charity cally Caritas (Loving) which supplies hot lunches and haircuts to the poor of the village, half of the foreigners here (us lot) go there, but I wish they would look for work instead. We give them food stamps never money and the councils open hotels in the really cold weather for them, although some rather stay on the streets.

I love those sun shades on your pram jude, even hija had ne on her big pram. You can tell that is steady, his face is the same.

I am enthralled by Mayday, can't wait for the ending.

No jno my ringworm is not famous, it is kept very quiet and not spoken about!!!

Lots of cats on the island have been poisoned we think by the authorities, I admit there are way too many but to poison them is just too cruel!

Was warm and sunny and is now grey and dismal, and I have cleared away the ashes of the log fire, so back to gas heater :-(
When we were in America qin 1999, in Florida, I was amazed at how poor some of them were, they were outside the huge arcades selling, only what I can call rubbish, but there were loads of them, I did feel sorry for them and quite awful, we did buy a couple things only to throw away, but it keeps their pride and is not begging.

I didn't watch that one but I have seen documentaries about the poor in America...such contrasts and the divide between rich and poor seems to be widening. As it will here.

Ozzy son phoned, he's in much better spirits and thinking clearer now he's off the heavy duty pain meds but he knows it'll be a long time before he's back to 'normal'. It's dawned on him how much worse it could have been.

That's such a cute pic Jude, babies had so much room in those prams. I had a canopy for my pram too....they were both summer babies in the days when we had a summer. I'm pleased you had a good time and that your friend is doing well....I'm sure it won't be long before you're off down there again will it :)

woofy it's strange about these canine illnesses from walking in woods..it happened in Nottinghmshire. I blame the increased damp and fungus. I have a thing about fungus/fungi, even though I eat mushrooms occasionally I really don't like it.
this isn't the canine seasonal thing Robi, its very acute and new which is why they thinking poison or pollution.
Question Author
Yes I've just been to look it up...what an awful shame, poor things.
Made lovely Spanish macarronis with processed meat, will we survive??

Hija washed up, as there was a mess in the kitchen. Just watche dEastenders and waiting for Mayday, the last episode.

Robi, when will Ozzy be able to work, how can they manage, hope they are OK?
