Had an assessment for a new Doctors yesterday, however I hate having my BP taken (White Coat Syndrome) - and of course the BP was reading high. 5 times she tried but I kept telling her that I don't like having it taken its so ridiculous ! Laid awake last night worrying about it as I seem to have a faster heart rate now 88 bpm with palpitations. I have also had a virus which has raised my temperature, and also have menopausal hot flushes ! She suggested I get a Monitor and take readings myself and report back to her in 3 weeks time. I know I am going to stress about it and she will end up giving me BP tablets - I don't know how this can be resolved. Any ideas?
From the outset, I must admit that I have very little faith in "White Coat Syndrome" and even IF it does exist, there is a question of whether it should be treated.
However, that is a personal opinion.....now one needs to know if your raised blood pressure is a permanent feature of your life in which case it needs treatment my BP lowering tablets and the only way that can be established is by monitoring you BP three times a day for a week.
I agree with your GP.........
You could get a Fitbit or similar that you wear as a watch. It will monitor your heart rate ( and other things). If you forget you’re wearing it, maybe that will help give your normal readings. Ps not a medical opinion but just a thought
I know it's easier said than done. My doctors have a blood pressure machine and always advise you get there 10 minutes early before using it so they believe stress levels, physical activity etc does have an effect on your BP.
