Where have most people met their "other half"? I was wondering as bars/clubs etc are all social venues, but i think it is a myth that these are the best places to look for long-term relationships, as its noisy, dark and you're both drunk.

So where is the best place to look?

At Uni, in a mixed Halls of Residence. We also shared the same surname initial, so had the same post box.
Met mine at work.
A music festival. But he turned out to be a drunk.
My first wife was a local girl and lived across the orad from me and my second wife I first met at my wedding reception.Lol. Not as bad as it sounds as we didn't get together for years and years and until I was divorced from my first wife.
First long term fella was a guy i met at school. There was another guy i knew from school but he emigrated and we weren't in touch as we hadn't been best friends or anything and then on day out of the blue he turned up where i worked to buy something. Didn't know i worked there and it actually shouldve been my day off...anyway he phoned the shop later and asked me out. We went out for some time but he had to move away again for family reasons and i for similar reasons couldnt go. We are now best friends but realistically couldnt sustain the relationship. My now long term partner also came into the place i was working and we ended up together. Fate has been very good to me over the years!
sorry meant to say Mr Black in answer to your question the best place to look is.......don't look. I think fate helps you to find the right ones without looking. I've never had a meaningful relationship with anyone i've met on a night out as that really was never the main intention and the majority of people will feel the same
My wife & I met through mutual friends. Our friends deny it but we both suspect it was a set-up (being single in your 30's it happens a lot) but we don't care! Glad it happened when it did as our friends split up a couple of months later.
Sorry Mr Black, too eager to hit submit there. I also meant to say neither of us were interested in looking for a partner (if either of us had suspected we were being fixed up we would not have gone to our friends for that weekend). Its a cliche & of little help to you I know, but the minute you stop looking, you'll find someone.

The best advice I can offer is to get yourself involved in stuff you like doing (volunteering, cycling groups, evening classes, amateur dramatics, etc, etc). That way you're in a win-win situation as you are more likely to meet someone who shares your interests but if you don't meet Mrs Right/Black at first your time will be filled with activities you enjoy in the company of like-minded people.

I found my Mr Darcy, frequenting a hostelry in Eton High Street. Then a few weeks later my best friend wanted a lift to his house, to check on the poor baby when he was ill ... and the rest as they say is history.

I agree with the poster who said don't look.Good people pop up when you least expect them.

I met my hubby at a bikers caravan, wasn't looking was just larking about with some mates, got talking and the rest is history,`19 years and 3 kids later,we still here!!!
Met mine over the internet 3years ago..
Met my husband at work. I don't think there is a "best place" to meet someone. It will either happen or it won't.x
Met my boyfriend in a pub on December 31st 1999. Obviously millenium eve, neither had made plans and both ended up in a pub in the local town. He was out with mates, I was out with my brother. have now spent the century so far with him!!
Met my second wife at work. I was her boss, then we got married and she became my boss.
I met my wife in a nightclub, but we both worked there - she was a barmaid and I was a DJ. l thought she had fabulous long legs, and she liked my voice over the microphone. We became friends, went out for six years, got married twenty years ago in August.
Met my wife after somebody had driven into my car and I ended up on a slab in a hospital with a label tied to my wrist saying in large letters "Dead On Arrival". A Nursing Sister ordered a nurse to remove my trousers which made me twitch apparently. They brought me back from dead and I married the Sister !!!
Denny's Restaurant. I was a waitress and he was a customer. We've been together for 5 years.
dancealot13,were the human league writing your life story in their song?
At a rave, back in the day!!

Met my wife in Kardamena in Kos. Billy's Bar if anyone knows it. Met her on the Wednesday, asked her privately to marry me on the Saturday and publicly went down on one knee seven days after meeting her. The sceptics present told us that it was just a holiday fling and once we got home we would forget about each other. That was June 1990 and we married eleven months later.

Still together and we have two two wonderful children born in June 1993 and July 1994, just 54 weeks apart.
