//Doesn't membership of practically anything promise some sort of award in a sense. Even the local library. Or Sainsbury's nectar card.//

Indeed, but a Nectar card doesn't promise dire consequences to non-participants in the scheme.
People tend to be encouraged to participate in things by telling then the good aspects ( heaven, extra nectar points) than the bad things. They use the bad things to control them once they are sucked in. 'you can't shop at Aldi -think of all those nectar points you will lose! (TIC)
Children attending faith schools would disagree with you.
Children attending Faith schools are already indoctrinated. They are being kept in the Faith by threats of what will happen if they don't adhere to the rules -as I just explained in my last post.
Children who attend faith schools are not necessarily already indoctrinated. I know several non-religious parents who send their children to Roman Catholic & CofE schools for reasons other than religion - and then the indoctrination begins.
Rubbish Naomi. Two of my grandchildren go to Roman Catholic schools because of distance and overcrowding at our nearest non denominational school. No way are they indoctrinated.
I have said this many times on AB before, but I was brought up as a Catholic, and went to a Catholic Primary School in 1958. Although I am a fairly militant atheist now, I don't regret my Catholic childhood one little bit.
maggiebee, how would you recognise indoctrination when you're indoctrinated yourself?
n.;//and then the indoctrination begins.//
Isn't the purveying of an atheist view to a child - such as this thread would attempt - also indoctrination?
Khandro, one can't be indoctrinated with nothing.

Khandro...how can teaching children the real facts, not fairy stories, be described as "indoctrination" ?

Would you rather children were taught real science at School, like Geography and Geology, rather than a preacher telling them that the earth is only 6000 years old ?
Khandro - yes it is. Any teaching about peoples beliefs should be taught objectively, looked at and discussed, not preached. Even Atheist and Agnostic views.
I stand by my comment on the first page.

Out of curiosity I glanced at the site whose logo appears on the TinyPic image posted by the OP- they appear a lot more zealous than most believers I've met, still each to their own.

I won't post a link ,easy to get if needed, though why they have such a nasty word in their site title beats me.
Mikey - you cannot teach children the real facts because no one knows for a fact there is not a God,or heaven or whatever else. Highly improbable, but never the less unproven one way or another. All you can teach children is the Beliefs of different Religions and let them make up their own minds if they believe or not. Children who are taught science and then told by a preacher teacher that the earth is only 6000 years old are more likely to believe the scientist to be honest. I lost count of the number of times my kids have come home saying the RE teacher 'must be on a different planet'
n,;//one can't be indoctrinated with nothing.//
Do you think the ranting poster in the OP contains nothing?
Check out its source which is at the foot of it, and tell me if you think that and they are "nothing" and would you be happy for a child to be confronted by such a twisted and bigoted view of all that religion has to offer?
Thanks for the timely reminder Naomi. I now remember why I never post on any thread that you put your tuppence to. Forever nagative. God bless you and yours.
I must admit I would rather Homeschool than put my child into a Faith school, although for a short time when we came to the UK the youngest went to the local village C of E and I was outraged when he was expected to pray in assembly and was taught that the Holy Bible was fact. I respect the right for Adults to follow whatever faith they feel the need to do, but schools should be made to teach religion in an objective way , which many thankfully do now.
mikey; Maybe they teach that the earth is 6,000 years old in Wales, but if so, don't you think it's time they moved on?
Mamya - if I could give best answer, I would give it to your post on the first page.
