Have you ever met anyone who boasted about their life – and you subsequently discovered they were trying to pull the wool over your eyes? We met a couple on holiday once…. she was ‘in fashion’ she told us loftily - and he was ‘in furniture’. It turned out she worked in a dress shop and he drove a removals van. Oops! :o)

// Well all I can say, is two people couldn't wait to tell me they have one// ( spotty number plate )

I recall that Linda Lovelace star of Deep throat was promoting er Deep Throat in a Roller number plate PEN 15

um just saying

personalised number plates Imean

We have a private number plate with a 1 and the first 3 letters of our surname. We have a foreign surname so the letters were ones that 99.9% of people wouldn't want. Bought it for OH as a surprise. Only cost £400. That's not boasting as some people would pay more than that for a pair of shoes. Will pass it on to grandson when we don't drive anymore.
I worked with a guy years ago who used to talk about what he would get from his British American Tobacco pension when he retired. It was a lot and good for him but he did go on and on about it.
I was at college with a guy who was known for his ludicrous boasting - the biggest nonsense of all was that he had the skeletons of four German officers under the shed at his mum's house. He also had a fictictious mate 'Tony' who loaned him his high-powered sports car / motorbike - whichever he thought would impress the most.

One day he invited me into lunch to the local Indian restaurant. I advised that the price was beyond my student means, he confirmed it was OK, 'Patrick' was treating us. Patrick who? Patrick Moore.

As in Patrick Moore the astronomer and TV personality?

Yep - he's a family friend.

Yeah right! Thought I, and accompanied him to the restaurant, and he kept up this nonsense right to the door when …

Patrick Moore opened it, greeted, him, and introduced himself to me!!!!!

The biggest nonsense of all was absolutely true, he did know Patrick Moore, he was a family friend, and he did buy us lunch!!!!
What an astromonic coincidence.
