When Does An 'Ordinary' Muslim Become An Extremist?

We're often told that there is a difference between 'ordinary' Muslims and extremists, so ignoring those who call for violence and Islamic domination as they march in support of Palestine, but thinking only of the Muslim school children and their parents and supporters who are making news by intimidating students into adopting the hijab, to observe Islamic fasting rituals, and to withdraw from some school activities because they are considered 'haram';   the student who is battling her school in court (at the taxpayers' expense) for the 'right' to pray during school hours, the protestors outside schools, causing one to close early in order to protect staff and pupils, and those who are threatening teachers to the extent that they fear travelling on public transport, one of whom is still, after a very long time, in hiding.   The people who are responsible for all of this carry on their regular everyday lives living among us.  Are they 'ordinary' Muslims - or are they extremists?

22:16, yes the "moderates" will just go along with the attrocities.......

Naomi is right Andy.  I do prefer Lottie. I just couldn't get back on here as Lottie

Naomi.  I will always wonder about my missing thread.  As you answered in such a curt unpleasant way I thought you might have remembered.  I felt sure it was on this thread because to me it answered part of your question.

I never inferred this thread was aout Gaza or you.  My answer above was referring Untitleds answer to Khandro above me not to you.

It was khandro that changed the subject.

I thought it was on this thread too, lottie, but I've looked and nothing has been removed.  It must be somewhere else.  If you felt my response was curt (unpleasant it wasn't) perhaps you should look to your own methods of communication and ask youself why people might be curt in responding to you.

"May I turn that question around and ask, what would you have done if you found your government had been storing bombs and rockets under your child's school and carrying out the barbaric practice of taking babies, children & elderly infirm ladies as hostages?"

i actually asked you first khandro and you have neatly avoided the question... if i found out that the tories had stored rockets under schools and taken children hostage then i would take to the streets and protest about it. but i live in a country where that is possible (for now) without serious physical danger. if i did live in such a place-as people in gaza do-them i would probably keep my mouth shut.

please do me the courtesy of answering me now that i have answered you.

*did not live in such a place

untitled, // please do me the courtesy of answering me now that i have answered you. //

Unlike you, I wouldn't keep my mouth shut and would bear the consequences.

(I speak as one who has given the 'wrong' answer at gunpoint.)

easy to say from your position of comfort and security khandro... especially when you're old and you know you'll never actually have to do it. harder by far when you're actually faced with it in reality.

Khandro - You say you gave the 'wrong answer at gunpoint ... '.

But would you have done the same if your family, and your entire town faced the consequences?

I think not.

untitled; Being 'old' makes it easier and less scared of dying.

Being younger like Alexei Navalny  the Russian opposition leader, lawyer, anti-corruption activist who is now being held in a freezing Siberian jail  as a political prisoner on a 19 years sentence, a bogus charge by Putin, - that takes a real man and real guts.

Naomi.  Very few people have been curt or nasty to me over the years.  I've had a couple of people telling me I'm not liked  or being nasty since the  7th October threads.  That doesn't bother me at all.

I have noticed far far  more nasty threads about you and your attitudes in recent times.

I'm leaving this thread now.

Lottie, I've no interest in popularity contests.

I guess ordinary Gazans were quite OK with Hamas activities in and around their homes/schools/hospitals prior to October 7th.

Now the consequences are being visited upon them perhaps they will think again.

Khandro.  With respect, being old does make you less scared of dying, but very much more scared about younger members and children in your family suffering or dying.

I thought you were leaving. 🙄

I was Dave was, but I had to make one last remark that was meant politelyto Khandro.

Naomi is  getting more and more insults about her attitude on here now.  No way was I trying to make this into a popularity contest But talk about the pot calling the kettle black!  Laughable.

Keep it for Chatterbank, lottie.  I won't be joining you.

Good.

Moving on ...... all this support for Islam but still no one had told me how they reconcile that with its treatment of women and gays.

No-one will, naomi, probably not until it is too late and deep Islam has moved in our communities. Nice try.
