I'm bored so here goes...

Are there any religious folks on Answerbank who believe the Noah's Ark account as in Genesis? I mean, only 6 people left 6000 years ago, and some insects are parthenogenic so so not possible to have a pair most of the time. Not to mentioned the animals that lived on island/continents.

Que the fruitcakes......
There were more than 2 of most animals, the Bible says there were a whole bunch of sheep - and there were other people in other parts of the world (as there were in Adam and Eve's time) because Noah's sons married women they found (as it were) on their travels. Or so I am told.
The Noah's Ark story was about long before the OT version, as were many flood stories.

The Babylonian version is actually quite a good read, if you're bored... look out for a good twist in the ending...

it all seems pretty unlikely. And yet there was a TV programme a while back suggesting that the number of humans who made it out of Africa may have been, at most, in the low three figures, and that all non-Africans are descended from them. So, statistically speaking, it may all have been possible.

It's thought that all cheetahs today are descended from a single breeding pair about 1000 years ago (some sort of disease or disaster having wiped the rest out.)

The flood story is at Chapter 5...
Eight people, two of some creatures, seven of others, all their food and bedding aboard an ark which had three floors and only one window, for much longer than the 40 days it is supposed to have rained – some estimates suggest around a year. Feasible? No, probably not.

Flood legends are prevalent in practically all corners of the globe, including China – and as Ventator has already said, the biblical account is not the first.

If, as we’re led to believe, the whole earth was flooded, has anyone ever wondered where all that water drained away to? Just a thought.
Is it not stored as icecaps in Antarctica ?
Noah built the ark when he was 400 years old, now what is wrong with that?

and why if Noah created all these creatures in one day did it take him 40 days to kill them all?
Also, how did he store all the fish, whilst the water covered the world, the fresh water and the sea water would have mixed and the cold water and warm waters would have mixed wiping out most of the sea life. So he must have had some big fish tanks on board.
It must have stunk a bit.
Ratter, //why if Noah created all these creatures in one day did it take him 40 days to kill them all?//

I'm sure you mean God rather than Noah - but it's a good question - and I've often pondered something along those lines myself. Why would an omniscient God create something that he was subsequently disappointed with? Wouldn’t he have known he was making a mistake when he drew up his blueprint?
Oh yes!! im dying of a cold here, im allowed to make mistakes lol.

Im probably being punished!!
dinnae fash aboot fish, fish can look efter thersels - God's instruction to Noah. (Robert Garrioch)
Sandy, //Is it not stored as icecaps in Antarctica ?//

Debateable. Ever heard of the Piri Reis map where Antarctica is apparently depicted free of ice?

Ratter, sorry to hear that. :o(
And where did he keep the woodpeckers ?
The beavers might have caused a few problems.
What about the Dinosaurs?
and what about the elephants and penguins - elephants hate penguins - because of their big feet they can't get the wrappers off
Also if the water water flooded al of the land then all the mountains would have been submerged, and if the water reached the top of the highest mountains most of the creatures would have frozen to death at such altitude.
