“There is one very serious defect to my mind in Christ's moral character, and that is that He believed in hell. I do not myself feel that any person who is really profoundly humane can believe in everlasting punishment''
Can anyone disagree?
The idea of been tortured forever is sick beyond belief.
If there's one thing (actually there are many) that turns me off from Christianity, its this idea that unbelievers will be tortured beyond belief for not believing in the God of love.
(Anyone else here see the contradiction)??
Theland - // We what attracted me to the bible was the prophecies.
Then the historical evidence for accuracy.
Over 6000 manuscripts and part manuscripts all supporting the party line.
Yes written by men inspired by God.
See Daniel B Wallace on this subject. //
I think Scientology will give you more or less the same bang for your buck, if that's what you need to be happy - and clearly, from your posts on here, it is.
//We what attracted me to the bible was the prophecies//
What attracted me to Nostradamus was the prophecies as well.
But it turns out that both the Bible and Nostradamus were vague prophecies that could be interpreted anyway one choose.
Here we go. Pick one item and pick holes in it.
Of course, never study the prophets and compare them to contemporary events.
That would be too easy eh?
Be reasonable, Theland. I have compared them. The Nile hasn't dried up ... and the end of times didn't come within the Disciples' lifetime. What can I say?
Not a poor response.
You take a few seconds to ask a question that you know would require much time and much writing to set out my views in any coherent sense.
But you know this, which is why you go from the general to the specific, to try and trip me up for inadequuate responses.
Theland, I’m not trying to trip you up. I’m offering a reasoned response to your claims. It stands to reason that if prophecies haven’t come to fruition those that have are either fulfilled through coincidence or by man’s design – the foundation of the State of Israel is an example of the latter; similarly much of the story of Jesus. If prophecies were dependable the one that really should have been miraculously fulfilled is that which came from Jesus (allegedly God incarnate) himself – but it wasn’t and it never will be. That should bother a proponent of the veracity of prophecy such as you.
