Leg goes to the tin bucket in the yard where hangs a rag on a stick to get between the folds of blubber.....
Seafarer - I couldn't have said more than what Octavius said. As far as Islam is concerned. I think Islam is the only Religion which clearly says "killing one human being is like killing whole human kind and saving one is like saving them all". Problem is that people look at few people and attach them with a faith, I can give so many examples where many more people were killed and the killers were not Muslims. Now according to an independent survey more than 100 K people have been killed in Iraq, including women and kids, would you say all of them were Terrorists. Still I am not talking about Afghanistan and other countries. But then again we are going away from the topic.
Keyplus You are not less well informed because you don't agree with someone. You are less well informed because you've studied nothing but Islam. Unless you study other things, you will never become knowledgeable in other subjects, and therefore you will remain less well informed.

The reason you make yourself ridiculous is because you say things like this:

Although I am not Christian (By Faith) but I believe in Jesus ............. I believe he spoke to people soon after he was born, I believe that he made birds out of clay and birds became real when he blew on them.

And why do you assume that anyone who doesn't follow a religion lives a corrupt life? You're not only insulting people - you are truly displaying your complete and utter ignorance.
naomi, I have got a bit behind and will now catch up with your comment to me yesterday:

Of course I imagine that it is very possible that there are civilisations elsewhere in the universe (statistically very probable) and if they can reach us by some means quite outside our imagining then they must be so far advanced that we cannot even conceive of their capabilities (also statistically probable).

But what has that got to do with Gods having arrived by spaceship? Have you not heard of the principle of Occams Razor, which says that you should always favour the simpler and least complicated explanation before considering the exotic and bizarre?
The simplest explanation of gods, with nothing to indicate otherwise, is that they exist only in the minds of those who believe in them. I explained how God was only an invention of the Jews 3000 years ago. Why do you have to go overboard about something so simple? There are far more interesting and difficult problems to apply your brain to than this superstition.
(Anyway, the quiz is arriving soon)

Good afternoon Chakka Where have you been?

Yes, of course I know about Occam's Razor - but I don't think it can be relied upon in every instance. I've never been keen on it - to me it's often a lazy way to explain that which we can't be bothered to investigate further. One of those things where we can say 'ok, that's that', and never think of the subject again.

In this case, I don't believe the ancients imagined their gods, or their flying machines, or the terrifying weapons the gods used. These ideas had to come from somewhere more than ancient imagination. In my opinion, it's more exotic and bizarre to consider that ancient man, with his very limited knowledge, invented these beings, and his religious notions. I think he recorded, both in text and in his artwork, precisely what he saw - or precisely what he thought he saw - and to me this is the simplest explanation. In fact I think the truth is staring us in the face, and we're ignoring it. If there is a subject that would interest me more, I've yet to discover it.

The quiz should be ready at the end of this week, shouldn't it? Now, that's a mystery that needs solving!!
Naomi - Once again you have proved yourself wrong in understanding me. First of all If I have not read the books you might have done that does not mean I am less informed. I am sure there are so many books and knowledge I have gained which you would only think about. Again you are probably judging me by the way I write (type) in this instance. But do not forget I at least know three more languages than someone who can only understand English. But I am not here to advertise my knowledge and degrees. Otherwise I have enough of these and trust me my knowledge does not depend on Google and wikipedia. Anyone can do copy & paste.

Then If I said all that about Jesus (pbuh) why did I ridicule myself with that. Does Anyone who believe in a Religion ridicules himself.

Thirdly I did not say that anyone who does not follow Religion lives a corrupt life. But one thing I did say and would say again that majority of the people who do not believe in Religion they do only because they do not want to agree with restriction that Religions impose, in regard to sexuality mainly and other social problems. Otherwise you are knowledgeable, you tell me where did all the ideas of free sex, homosexuality, wife swapping, adultery come from. It all came when few people thought about getting rid of Religious restriction. And people started talking about evolution and started calling it NATURE. I am not saying about someone personally, but who ever believes this is what knowledge gives you, then I am better without such knowledge.
I agree with naomi and bensmum.

Ignore wizard66 - keyplus90 - he can rarely say anything without swearing. You have as much right as he has to post so just post more to annoy him!
-- answer removed --
Keyplus, you are completely and utterly wrong - and you're also wrong in assuming that you are unique in speaking more than one language. The impression I have gained of you is not as a result of your limited English, but as a result of the antiquated mentality you display, and from your continual dishonesty. You may have religion, but those without religion here have far more. They have dignity, honour, honesty and integrity - all of which you appear to be sadly lacking.

Ice Maiden Hello again. I didn't know you were interested in this.

Oh the deranged one says he ignores me then actually responds.
Catron Oh help!! Are you debating religion? No, course not. You don't think anyone should do that, do you? Might have known. You're just here to criticise others again. Are you ever going to answer the question that's been asked - or does your obvious Christian kindness and love for your fellow man baulk against that?
Naomi24 - here you go again - making assumptions! I have told you time and time again I am not against anybody debating religion but you just will not believe me.

All I have done this time is to criticise the needless swearing by wizard66 - it is abhorrent to me and should be to everybody who can make their arguments without recourse to this vile way of talking.

As for this question, I believe most people in this country, even now, have heard the words of the Christian gospel and know who Christians believe Jesus to be. Seafarer1966 does not believe the Christian view of Jesus and so what would be the point of my stating a view that he/she has heard before and rejected?
Catron We've been here before, so I don't believe I'm making assumptions. I don't like swearing either, but it's not up to anyone to tell others how to express themselves.

I'm not getting into this again with you. Bye bye.
Fine by me, naomi24. You are making assumptions and that can be proved very well by the fact that I have not been involved in many of the threads - if I was against debate, you would see my input to nearly every thread.

As for swearing, wizard66 can do it as much as he wants but I will sometimes be there to condemn it, as I have done on this occasion and as is my right.

naomi, I am truly surprised, considering the huge number of wonderful fictional characters that the human brain has invented over the millennia, that you think that it is unable to invent gods from its imagination. Were all the Greek and Roman gods also the result of experience?

It's also a rummy thought that Occam's Razor represents intellectual laziness. I would have thought it saved us from wasting time on improbable explanations when there is an obvious one to hand.
If my wife, whom I last saw in the kitchen, appears by my side in the living-room I prefer to think that she came out through the kitchen door, walked a few paces and entered the living-room by the door, rather than that she walked magically through the wall. Occam in practice.
