Why, apparently do so many people hate Jesus, or even the thought of Him? That is what comes across so often on this topic. And by the way - happy new year.
Nobody hates fairies and Santa with the same venom directed at Jesus, and he lived a long time before the examples given. AND His teaching was love and forgiveness - puzzling?
Well I can think of one reason why someone MIGHT hate Jesus
Some upbringings are very strict, full of rules, drummed into you all the time, you start to rebel ...
I don't hate Jesus - I like him, but I feel very sorry for him. In the whole of the world's history, I can't think of anyone who has been more used, or more misunderstood.
When you talk about people hating him, who exactly do you mean? I would say that with the exception of Christians, Muslims, and some atheists, like those who contribute to R&S, most people give him little or no thought at all, except perhaps at Christmas.
Because Jesus name has been used to excuse so many attrocities for 2,000years.
It also strikes me that by quoting Jesus at people we are expected to believe it,no matter how ludicrous it may be.
Wherever Jesus is,he must be very angry at the misuse of his name.
I wouldn't like to be one of the people who use and abuse Jesus when he returns, boy are they in for a shock.
Of course I mean his(so called) followers in the above, not Agnostics or Aetheists(or other religions).
I'm an Atheist and I would never, ever dream of 'sneering' at a believer. Everyone is entitled to their own thoughts and beliefs, and I totally respect that. Religion does not feature whatsoever in my life and as a result it is very rarely mentioned by me.
What does annoy me, though, is when religious people decide I need to be 'saved' because I have no belief. I do not preach my beliefs or opinions to them; why do they do so to me?
For the record, I am completely impassive about Jesus, as I am about God, Allah, fairies and anyone or anything else who I believe does not exist, and never has.
