I appreciate you have no experience of being Catholic but a lot of Catholics take what the Pope says very seriously and the more cynical amongst them can use that to their own advantage- and they do.

I honestly think education is not only being stifled by the Church, it is being completely disregarded. A friend of mine, a doctor working in South Africa, visits townships. She told one of her Aids patients not to have sex with anyone because if he did, he would give the disease to the other person. Three weeks later she saw him again and asked if he'd had sex with anyone. He said he had. When she asked why he replied he did it because she'd said that if he had sex he would *give* the disease to the partner - and his logic told him that if he *gave* the disease to the partner, he would no longer have it. THAT is the mentality the church is dealing with - and messing with. Shameful!
Sqad, please don't misrepresent me. I most certainly didn't say it isn't the church. Quite the opposite in fact. It is the church, my point being that people who are brainwashed from birth with medieval superstition and purposefully denied factual education cannot be blamed for being superstitious or for lacking in education. The church has much to answer for.
