Yesterday I joined Facebook but I don't like it. Don't like all those strange people who have poped up on my page, who I don't know.

How do I close my account. I have been trying all morning, so far. Can find the right button.

Thank you, Chuck. Done it now.
If you deactivated your account keep in mind simply trying to log in again will automatically re-activate it.

Thank you. I panicked a bit when it was uploading my photo and it took ages. I thought it was accessing all the stuff on my computer. I hate it when you have to browse and pick a file. I imagine that my computer is being hacked. Am I being daft?
And where did all those people come from on my page? I knew one of them, out of about ...........goodness knows how many there were.
I've put up as many security barriers on FB as I can - it does look at people you say you know, and offer your THEIR friends too. I just ignore it.
I simply don't do it. I think it's horribly intrusive.
It's the only way I can keep up with some of my relatives
I keep up with my far-flung people by email.
You don't have to join FB in your real name or with your real details.

Perhaps I need to find a 'Facebook for Dummies' book.

I didn't realise that ,ummmm. You do have to put your email address in though, don't you?

Who are you supposed to be Dave? The housekeeper in Dracula's Castle?
You can make a new email address with hotmail or gmail.
Just call me Igor ...

Oh, you're the butler! Sorry, I got confused there for a moment.

Ummm, I as such a luddite. I don't know how to do that. I must keep up with the times!
But ummmm is right - even if you want a facebook account in your real name (or an approximation of it) it is worth setting up a new and separate gmail account to use to register on fbook.

Just acts as a firewall to keep fbook's tentacles out of your other online life.
Register with gmail.com. Chose an address that isn't your name. Join FB using that address and a false name and contact the people you 'want' to friend via email with a link to your FB. Ignore all other friend requests.
