I have a fairly new computer and flat screen monitor - but i recently moved house and had to disconnect everything. now it is all put back together but the monitor says it is receiving no input.  How do i connect the monitor to the PC successfully?

the cables I have got are the kind with a blue 'block' connection at each end (i don't know it's name) and i also have some various green leads (sound related i think, but that bit works, by the way)

can anyone help?

Connecting a monitor to a PC is a fairly simple job. The blue 'block connector' (VGA) should attach itself to the back of your computer in a similar shaped slot, with two holes either side.
It's possible that your computer has 2 screen outputs - usually a motherboard integrated one, at the top of the rear of the computer, and one on the graphics card, lower down the computer.
If there is one lower down, plug your monitor into that one as opposed to the higher one.
If that doesn't work, the only thing I can suggest is making sure that the connector is in as far as it will go, and that the screws on either side are tightened.

Thanks. I know what you are saying - I know I sound stupid, but i did connect it like you said and the screen works, in that it goes on, but it says there is no input detected. I will attemp to tighten and check the connections and make sure it is in the bottom of the 2 sockets as soon as i get in from work. Thanks.

Just a tiny point but you will get a " No signal " error message on screen if you have not turned your computer on, it should disappear as soon as it detects that the system is on

could you try plugging your monitor into a friends pc to see if the same thing happens as pc's and monitors don't like being knocked about and as you moved recently the monitor could have been damaged.or you could try someones monitor on your pc.

Thanks for the advice people. Its still not working though. I'm going to try putting the CD that came with the moniter into the driver tonight - but i don't see how that will affect it.

I was ever so careful with transporting the computer and monitor, I really don't see how it could be damaged.

and Yes, I did make sure the computer was on when I turned the moniter on, I tried turning the monitor on before the PC, the PC before the moniter, both of them at the same time.... I'm tearing my hair out here! all I did was move it from one house to another! what went wrong? :o(
