Entered a net, so-called competition to win a mobile phone recently and I mentioned it here. I was advised it was probably a scam. There's no phone, of course, and today the scammers attempted to take £49.99 from my bank account. Luckily the bank was vigilant (I told them of my concerns) and they'll not get anything. So it's a big thanks to those of you who pointed out the problem and it's a word of warning to others who, like me, might be tempted.

Close that account if at all possible. I would insist on it.
If they tried to take money via your bank card just cancel the card and get a new one. I have had to do this a couple of times.
If invited to take part in a competition (for anything) – why would the organisers want your bank account details?
Should have added to the above that I’m running a competition to win a prize – to enter, you only need send me your details (name, address, date of birth, place of birth, mobile number, bank account number (including sort code), mother’s maiden name and PIN number to any bank cards you hold).

Good Luck to all those who enter.
