Switching ISPs

We have recently signed up for broadband with one ISP, which has a 12 month minimum contract.  However, we have been told that there is an inter-company arrangement whereby we can easily leave one ISP and go to another without any penalty. We prefer to deal honestly with people, so feel rather dubious about this claim. Is it really this simple, if we wish to take advantage of what seems like a better deal?

There is an arrangement, voluntary code if you like, where the various ISPs will share your details between them to facilitate moving from one to the other. However, you'll still have to stick to your contract and either wait another 11 months or pay for another 11 months for something you're not going to use.

I realise you are committed to your new ISP for the next 12 months but you might like to bear it in mind for the future.
